Thanks, an interesting thing to see.

Are you using the new flash 10 version of flashpanorma? Only yours looks surprisingly wavy when rotating? Still understandable if you wait till back home before updating.

Avg reported my firefox portable as a virus the other day. I found the option to send it for analysis (its in the virus vault) and avg had another update the same day which stopped the problem.

www.virustotal.com/ is a good site. You can upload a file and it will scan it with thirty virus checkers. So you can quickly get an idea if it is a false positive. Hard to upload a file that avg is blocking mind.

To be honest I'm planning to try avast instead as avg is getting a bit buggy and clingy.

Good news, but my question is: can I install both the Flash 10 and 9 clients easily on my machine?

I'd like to use v10 to enjoy panos that I watch, but still use v9 to be sure that the panos I make are ok for viewers who only have v9... Any idea ?

Flash is located at C:\windows\System32\Macromed\Flash if you change the ocx files for internet explorer and the xpt and dll files for firefox and netscape browsers then those applications should use them. Adobe has old versions of flash on their website so if you dig out the required files you can manually swap them over and change your flash version that way.

Firefox also has an extension called "flash switcher" which when installed will swap your firefox flash version for you. However it does not come with version 10 so you have to manually copy your version ten files into its folder (specified in its settings) for it to use it. Otherwise when you switch from version ten it will have no copy to switch back with. Obviously internet explorer uses the active x ocx files so this has no effect on it.

Hope that makes some sense. Basically just poke around and see where files are and its fairly clear. Seems to work for me anyway. Very handy if you wish to see how well a website is dealing with out of date surfers.

I can't help think this is a boring reply but if you read the text of the article it does say

"I actually broke my Agnos pole using it horizontally to reach new viewpoints, like in the rafting VR. I finished killing it for the vanoise express pano, and I had to use a specially designed pole for this assignment."

So he did use a pole, though its ambiguous if it was actually a modified agnos one. (The vanois express being the cable car).

Do a search for an active usb cable on ebay. They are cables with a built in one port hub at one end which reconditions the signal in some way so in effect you can go an extra 5m. You can daisy chain them with a regular cable to get up to about 20m or 60 feet. Maybe a bit longer? I don't really know.

Otherwise do a search for a usb cat5 extender and you can find gadgets that put a usb socket on either end of an ethernet cable and claim up to 150 feet. Only usb 1 speed I think though.

I have window shopped rotating heads before and you have to be carefull as most of them seem not to do a full 360 degrees around which is unhelpful.

Good luck. Try not to fall in.

Now I think you seem to have typed in the links as

www.flyfishingfotography.com\webpics\stonehenge1.mov

Internet explorer again doesn't seem to care but for firefox try and keep them all forward slashes to work. You have several back slashes in your link. Which is new.

Oh pish. Sorry I really thought it was just spaces.

Now I look at it more closely I have formed the suspicion that you are linking backslashes instead of forward slashes
http\\ instead of
http//

which would be a rather simpler flaw and more consistent with the error though irritating to have overlooked. You could of course just switch to relative links and skip your domain name altogether.

(Oh I'm afraid I can't seem to get your other thread to work any more? Perhaps the javascript posted in it borked it or something, who knows)

Yeah I think its because there are spaces in his file names which some browser can't cope with. On my Firefox 2 windows xp I have the same problem. Internet explorer 6 copes fine though, as it should seeing as the spaces are Microsoft ones. I don't know why it works for smooth in other browsers perhaps he is using non xp or just has more updated bits.

If he wants to fix it he just needs to rename his mov files and links to have no spaces in them and then it should work for everybody. Or alternatively replace the spaces in the link with %2 so you link to www.flyfishingfotography.com/webpics/Stonehenge%2...
instead of
www.flyfishingfotography.com/webpics/Stonehenge 01.mov
that is Stonehenge%201.mov instead of Stonehenge 01.mov

If you go straight to www.flyfishingfotography.com/webpics/ you can see all the panoramas directly in the directory including the first two linked to from the web page, though I prefer number 7.

They are nicely made panoramas though personally I think the original has more romance.

They do look nice.

I would be interesting to see one of them stitched without enfuse just with the best exposed set of photographs for comparison.

If you do an ebay search for "white balance" you will find dozens of clones of the expodisc for under a fiver. I'm not saying they are as good as a seventy pound expodisc or rival but from what I've read they are close enough to be worth playing with before shelling out the the real thing.
l7foto.com/2007/05/31/white-balancing-lens-cap-re...
and many other pages about them on google if you can wade through all the adverts.

Or as mentioned many people just find the perfect piece of opaque white material from their trash like a lid and use that.
