Why do you want a 15mm lens?
Are you planning to upgrade to a 5D or other fullframe camera.?
Hans

Hi Hans,

Yep - hoping later this year to upgrade to 5D MkII so will use my Sigma 8mm and then 15mm too.

The 10-22mm for my cropped-sensor 550D is a stop-gap and for realtor interior WA shots as it doesn't produce too much barrel distorition.

Down time?

Glad to say I'm busy all year round - and busier than ever at the moment. I'm fortunate that 80% of my work is commercial property, so developer / landlord clients not too bothered if not summer / sunny (although I Ps in nice blue skies) nor any leaves on trees like I suppose hotels, leisure would be.

I wish I could spend more time actively marketing and updating website - I've got probably 30+ recent jobs from the past couple of months I'm keen to get up on the site as new portfolio examples, but takes precious time.

I'm averaging 3 good quality jobs a week at the moment which is great, just trying to find the time to fit them all in. I've had 3 good web enquiries today alone which take time to talk through and write a detailed quote for each.

Last week had a job in London which meant I had to be there at 9am (4am start from home) to then straight after drive up to Edinburgh (8 hour drive), stay the night in a Travelodge and do a job up there the next day, then drive home. Round trip: 950 miles in 2 days.....!

I would say I'd like to take on extra help, but sod's law the moment I do that, I'd go quiet......juggling time is the hardest part of the job, I'd say, as never want to turn down a commission.

Hi,

This tour was taken with my 'standard' work set up - nothing special: Canon 550D, Sigma 8mm, NN Ultimate R1 & EZ Leveller...

How much do you charge?

- How much do you think you're worth?
i.e. - are clients accepting your quotes or going elsewhere because they can get the same level of quality cheaper?

- How much do you direct competitors charge?
One of my main competitors (an accomplished player who's been in the market for some time) I know for a fact charges £600 for a bespoke 15-scene tour (created in FPP) with radar, floor plan, nadir removal (no tripod cap) and includes a stills gallery too. And doesn't charge mileage! I could cut my prices to compete with that, but luckily I'm busy enough not to worry at the moment. But that shows how much some companies will cut their prices to win business, even for good quality work.

hi there,

if you're using the Canon 550D & 8mm Sigma, you only need to shoot 4-round, not 6. Perhaps the massive overlaps are also contributing to the stitching errors? (but I'm no expert).

The Civil Aviation Authority can give you advice as to what you can use below or out of the door of a chopper without interfering with the flight integrity and dynamics of the chopper. Not all charter companies have insurance for externally mounting equipment, and it is also down to pilot discretion as to what you want to use his machine for!

It is also very expensive. From my enquiries here in the UK, the minimum height a chopper can fly over a built-up area is 1,000 feet, and that has to be a twin-engined chopper, not a more basic single engined machine like a Robinson. The total cost to charter a twin-engined for a 2 hour flight was about £4,000....

hi all,

I am after a good WA lens for interior work that has the least amount of barrel distortion for my workhorse 550D (1.6x APS-C format sensor).

Have considered so far:
Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5
the new Sigma 8-16mm f/4.5-5.6 DC HSM

What would you recommend?

cheers

WANTED : 400 ft aerial 360 service

hi,

I have one supplier - just trying to get best value for money for the client.

Even with my client base, and offering the service for the past 2 years, I don't get that much call for it, so don't see the point in investing time and a lot of money into a 'boys toy' - considering I used to fly radio-controlled helis for years as a teenager, and being quite good at 3D flying, even I don't want to get involved directly in aerial work.

There are a few of my competitors currently building, buying UAV's etc and they're not cheap bits of kit to run, maintain or insure. As well as Civil Aviation Authority Certification as well, not worth the effort. I just think it's a bit of a passing fad with limited commercial use and minimal return on investment.

You can have one done for your portfolio - it'll just cost you!

cheers
