Yes Smooth, I know you gave some tips earlier. Thank you for your help. You also used my files but with a much better result. What did you do? Did you only add CP's and optimise?

Thnx Smooth....but....you made the CP's with the same Tiff files as I did and I suppose you changed some optimise functions. You saw my Tiffs, can you say something about the quality of my setup/my files? I thought they were as good as possible.

Do I need to shave a Sigma 15mm for my 5d mkII?

How do you place the CP's right without too much distance. That's the problem I often have.

Thanks, Heinz, Smooth en John for all your good advises. Smooth, I opened your version of the pts file. I see the good spread of CP's. Did you fix this by checking all those optimise functions or did you add some CP's by yourself?

Oke, so with 15 mm I also have the same problems. That's a pity because I allways have to correct som lines in the zenith and nadir.

With my 8mm the panos aren't as sharp enough. Look at

photas.webruimtehosting.com/pano/baars/baars.swf

I took this using 5d mkII with 8mm sigma on F8 with multiple exposures, merged it with photomatix. The highest resolution in ptqui (around 7000 af far as I can remember).

I correct in ptqui with adding some control points, but everytime the feedback is that these points are too far away (30, 60 or higher), after this I try to make some extra masks.

Still one question. Do I have the same problem of a floating NPP with the 15mm? That's what I'm trying to get rid off (and off course the waste of pixels).

I make panos with my 5d mkII with the 8mm 3.5 Sigmalens. I heard that it isn't the best lense for vr-photography because of the floating NPP and not the optimal amount of pixels (3 shots on 21 million pixels). Is it necessary that a buy another one? For example I have the 16-35 lense of Canon. Is it wise to use this lense on 16mm for better results?

Hi Andrew, thnx for your post...

1. Mmm...maybe it's the software but are you sure? I have stitching problems on the floor and in the biggest orange lamp. Could it be the software? Does Autopano give better results perhaps?

2. The images are bracketed in two steps, except the nadir shot, because that wasn't possible (too long exposures with a tripod that's not completely fixed. I used the method of Hans Nyberg with the tripod: www.panoramas.dk/panorama/nadir/

3. That's right, it was 5.6. At 5.6 I could eventually take nadir shots without tripod, but that was not necessary (and possible) altough the results were not.

4. Yes, I see too. I read somewhere that 5.6 does it good on 1 meter as hyperfocalpoint. I'll try the F8 next time. Another possibility is that I used Enfuse Gui (plugin lightroom).

I do a lot of experiments with the canon 5d mkII, sigma 8mm and nodal ninja 5L. I use the settings that you can read on the Nodal Ninja site (a=53, B = 89,5). I've checked these settings and they are really the most optimal settings, but never completely good. I checked it with the tips of John Houghton www.johnhpanos.com/epcalib.htm. In the corners there is allways a slight movement of objects relative to each other. You can download some of my testfiles here: photas.webruimtehosting.com/pnotoosje/panbestande...

I also read on some websites that the 8mm lense does not have a fixed NPP. Does this mean that I have to buy another lense, because I have to correct too much in patched files.

Hope that someone can help with good tips.

For finding the NPP I read this tutorial: johnhpanos.com/epcalib.htm

For aligning the entrance pupil with the rotation axis, John uses a plumpline in front of the lense. Because it's not so easy to see the entrance pupil I wonder if this is a good alternative.

I put the camera in the position that I'm taking a nadir shot and uses the red focal point in the centre of my viewer and changes the position of the camera in a way that the focusing point is in the middle of the Nodal Ninja knob. The next step I take is turning the camera 180 degrees and do the same thing.

To say it more simple: is the central focusing point on my camera usable for checking the position of the entrance pupil?
