being the computer age smile I believe the dvds turn slowly and painfully to oblivion, following the diskettes (who does remember punched cards, the 8.25, the 5.25 and the "large" 3.5 inches diskettes, the tapes with their countless versions and systems and so on)
I believe a safe bet for now would be a very large disk system connected in RAID so that the same information gets to at least two places of the disk; with a few TB you'll have peace of mind... for a while.

I suppose the future belongs to different "clouds" which are accessible through internet and are said to be safe.

as a software to create images and database them I recommend this one www.10-strike.com/searchmydiscs/ which allows you to see short fragments of films and audio as well

a great panorama Mark - thanks for sharing
I love the details and the air it breathes
What I'm impressed most is the details in the snow
(we all have confronted the dramatic condition to expose snow so that details may pass through to the viewer)

hi Chris
I like your panorama.

Regarding your lens - I don't have experience with it but here everybody will advice you to go for the smaller number of photos; it will be easier and your productivity will increase.

For the time being I'd advice you to stick to what you already have, work a little on the colors and the stitching (actually I believe there is no stitching problem but some lack of vertical lines - but it could be just an impression) and when seeing what fits you most you'll buy precisely that. On the other hand if you wait a few months the 8-15 mm Canon will come and is expected to be a very good fish eye lenses

beautiful and interesting

I don't see in the images in what those noctilucent clouds differ from the common but the sunsets are really beautiful and inspiring

hi David
If you intend to use only the fish-eye lenses the NN5 will do perfectly; nevertheless for heavier lenses you should consider the opportunity of the good price you can get on this 360Precision Adjuste.

Shooting with square format

hello Odille and welcome

I am sure the results should be extraordinary while the "randament" of the resulting panorama would also be greater than of the common rectangular sensors.

I suppose the great thing about the medium format is not the lenses but the wonderful definition of the pixels.

Depending on your lenses you will determine the non paralax point and you surely need a panoramic head able to keep sturdy the 4-5 kg of camera+lense and a tripod sturdy for all.
If I may, I'd recommend you a 360 Precision panoramic head (in spite of the bad press here)

I look forward in seeing the results of your Hasselblad in panoramic photography (especially since I would very much like to take panoramas someday with my 50 mm Distagon on my old 500 EL/M smile of course on film since I can't afford a digital back)

Canon 5d mark 2 with 0-360 lense

I'm not sure if I get it right, but if you are interested in something like 20000 pixel images or more and you have the 24-70 Canon lens plus Canon 5D mark II, you only need a panoramic head and tripod to take the pictures and stitch them in your favorite planar projection.

If you don't want multi-row then you have to get some fish eye lenses like Canon 15 mm, Tokina 10-17 mm, Sigma 15 mm and so on.

The result of any one shot system is too small from what you require.

of course Santa may build my dream camera that has a medium format circular sensor with a wonderful dynamic closer to the one of the film, a manual control and a 20-30 mm fisheye lens in front of it;
and of course I'd love to see my skills improve

but until then,
sweet dreams smile

hello friends smile
some time ago I did buy a 360 Precision Adjuste and it got to me in a quite long time
the reason for this is because it was customized for what lenses and camera I requested and the process is indeed of some duration (since I've decided to buy it, it was worth it)

When I've met Matt at Panotools at Prague I discovered he really is a friendly guy and all I asked was addressed instantly.

So comparison to a product one buys from the shelf is forced.

Of course the delays are annoying and somehow Matt should take into consideration the bad press from this forum, but the product is very good and if the communication would be improved things would turn to his favor. I recall many times he wrote that the complains were made because people didn't use the appropriate channels of communication as specified by him.
