Email is an extremely unreliable form of communication for supplying support to a large number of customers. Maybe as a photographer with a handful of customers it's manageable. When you're supporting thousands of customers email DOES NOT WORK.

I have never heard so much rubbish in my life.

There are hundreds, if not thousands of companies out there with customer bases FAR bigger than yours that use email very successfully.

Once again we have a disgruntled customer with THE SAME issue as others before him, and Matthew Rogers fails to see that there is a problem.

Outstanding work yet again, with every reply you give you must be turning away more and more potential customers with your arrogant and down right crazy responses to complaints.

With the amounts you charge for your pano heads, why not get another person in to deal with some customer service? As this is clearly where your weaknesses lie.

I know a few of the pros on here use a 550d and produce some great HDR work, would you care to share how you do it?

I have been using a promote control with my 450d, but really wan to start using my 550d that is just gathering dust. It seems the promote doesn't effectivly work on the 550d.

I need to bracket more than the -/+ 2 stops that the canon allows.

Hans, unfortunately using F16 for me resulted in a softer image than at F5.6, and didn't have any effect on the vignetting.

I also tried shooting 6 around instead of 4, but this had no effect on the quality.

I may just have to accept that the sigma 8mm isn't going to give me better results than my tokina 10mm, not with an R1 anyway.

Add to that the fact that the Promote doesn't work with the 550d, and it looks like i'll be paying ebay a visit!

Forgot to mention, the CA is much better on this sigma than on my tokina.

Thanks Hans, i'll give F16 a go.

I was worried someone may suggest to dump the R1 for something else, I have an NN3 but the R1 seems so much more robust and quicker to use in terms of bashing out tours.

Does the F3.5 8MM give better crispness at the edges? Can't I just try 6 around? I'll give all this a go.

Thanks!

Yep you got it, it is an F4 version.

The problem is the website states that USB function is supported, but it creates huge issues operating the camera when it is plugged in to the promote, so I would argue that the Promote Control doesn't support the 550d at all.

I have submitted a ticket via the promote website to see what they say.

well, what a difference a few f stops makes!

I am suffering from vignetting though which is leaving me with a dark patch on the ceiling, guess i'll just have to deal with that during RAW conversion. Wasn't expecting that from the sigma to be honest.

Such a shame regarding the non compatibility of the promote control with the 550d. HDR etc is possible, but when the promote is plugged in and turned on, it renders the camera useless. No button can be used. You have to turn the promote off to be able to adjust settings, review images etc.

Any other promote alternatives??

Blimey, it seems even the promote control is having trouble working with the 550d, just keeps coming up with 'busy' on the screen, won't allow me to do anything...

It will be a real shame if I can't use my trusty promote with the 550.

Thanks Smooth,

After playing a little more I have a max error of around 4pixels in PTGUI, I can cope with that.

I also tried a shoot of 4 around with it pointing up around 7.5 degrees, gave good coverage.

I will give the lens another go with F8 and play with the focus, at the moment it almost looks like I have used a one shot lens!

Hi all,

I usually use a 450d with tokina 10mm and my trusty NN3, but I have had the R1 laying about now for ages and want to try and put it to use with my old 8mm sigma.

So I have the R1 with the Sigma 8mm adapter, and have connected up to my new 550d I got around the end of last year. I am aiming to get a pano around 8000 pixels in width.

I am not sure if it is possible to get a 360x180 image using the R1 and my 8mm on a cropped sensor, is this possible? I am concerned that it is only really suitable for full frame sensors.

I also am having trouble getting the settings correct for the NPP, I have it set to 1.65 as per the instructions, but i'm still getting errors.

And on another note, I seem to be getting really poor quality images from the sigma compared to my tokina 10mm. I am using ISO 100, with F11 and custom WB. It is coming up really soft.

Any help appreciated!

Judy, that seems a very high %'age for FF.

For my site (estate agents, in Ireland) it's around 50% IE, then the remainder being FF (25%) then chrome and safari.

How on earth did you come to the conclusion that they will stop supporting flash???

There is no doubt about it that HTML5 will take over flash as it is developed further, but at the moment flash is by far the best medium to publish tours.

I personally cannot wait to get rid of flash, but it will be a good few years before flash is dead. I do worry however that as Adobe lose more ground that they will cease updating flash and that is what will be it's end.

Anyone remember Java and QT???

I seem to remember Trausti (spelling?) from FPP completely denying that he needs to develop a version of FPP for html5. At the moment it seems to be the only one not supporting it, and I imagine it is slowly dropping as a popular format for publishing tours as Pano2vr, KRpano and others zoom ahead.

I offer neither, as i'm an estate agent now for my sins, or Realter to you.

If i'm going to be perfectly honest, I have yet to see an example of your hotel work that couldn't be served a brutal blow by Google deciding to map out Hotels as part of their extended places program. I didn't want this to get personal, but I think you need a wake up call. IF (and i'm not saying they will) Google decide to really push their 360 technology from beyond just streets, you need to start worrying. I do not believe any pano photographer is safe in this industry.

A 'location' gets a virtual tour to show the public their space. A google tour will do this just as well as one of your tours, just using less resolution, and alot less $$$$$. Even if just 10% opt for Googles option (and I assure you they would, if not more), it's 10% less work for you.

You keep referring to Google not allowing you to use the panoramas on any other site, where did you get this info? Google do anything but stop people from using a google product on your own site, which is why they provide direct source code links on most, if not all of their visual products.

Doug,

You're missing my point.

As google push further and further towards providing FREE 'streetview' style products, it is de-valuing the whole industry.

You seem to think that you are invincible to what Google is trying to do, but you're tours are not that good that you are untouchable, even from Googles low quality product.

There are also so many things wrong with your facts, I don't have the energy to point them out to you anymore.
