Hey Everybody,

We have just gone live on millions of Nokia Phones in 82 countries. This is a huge win for panoramic photographers all over the world, and a big expansion of the medium of panoramic photography!

i made a video showing how to unlock the "panorama mode" in iOS 5.0.0 / 5.0.1 on iphone 4 / 4s (and ipod touch, and ipad 2)

no jailbreak necessary - it's really easy!

as this feature is not public, it's no surprise that it's not great, and probably not finished.

Big new features on 360 Cities!

(resposting... it's not possible to post in the "commercial announcements" section, so I'm posting here)

Last week we launched our new 360 Cities PLUS accounts, in addition to our FREE and PRO accounts. The new PLUS account allows you to do many new things with 360 Cities we’re excited about! These new features have automatically been added to PRO accounts as well.

The new tasty treats are...

1. Publish non-sphericals, gigapixels* or lower quality panoramas
- We’ve opened our gates to all imaginable kinds of panoramas. Such panos won't be publicly visible on 360 Cities if they don’t meet our quality standards, but they will be shown in your profile and you can share them. *full gigapixel support not quite ready as of this writing

2. Unlist your panoramas
- Are you shy? Mark your image as unlisted and it will not show publicly on our site - not even in your profile. You can still share the URL with others.

3. View your portfolio
- Switch any pano of yours to Portfolio Viewing mode and only your panoramas will be visible as arrows to nearby panoramas. Share this view with others!

4. Get your images reviewed faster for Google Earth
- Our new priority review queue guarantees that we'll review all your images within 7 days. PRO account panos have the highest priority.

What to do now...

If you don’t have a 360 Cities account yet
- Get a new account here www.360cities.net/signup

If you are an existing FREE member:
- You can keep your FREE account if you want (and that's totally cool with us) or you can upgrade to PLUS or PRO via www.360cities.net/account/choose-plan

If you are an existing PRO member:
- You don't need to do anything. All these new features are automatically added to your PRO account and you can start using them today!

If you have any questions, get in touch via our community discussion forum, all your questions will be answered there!
groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/360cities

Looking forward to see you on 360 Cities!

Best regards

I had the pleasure of giving a talk at the 2010 Tucson Panoramic Photography conference last month.

If you want to watch my talk, it's here - vimeo.com/12048914 in this (1 hour) talk I give a summary of the past, present, and future of 360cities, and its relation to the wider world of location based services and the geoweb. i also give some summary of our new batch publishing system ( bit.ly/62NNxe ), and our newly released Pro Memberships help.360cities.net/pro-account

Many thanks to Don Bain & the ivrpa board for organizing everything so flawlessly - they did a fine job. Thanks to Karyn Laudisi for shooting/editing all the talks - I guess more of them will be available soon on the ivrpa site. There were quite a few other talks there which would be very interesting for a lot of people on this forum, I am sure.

I really can't believe someone would actually market themselves like this

looks to me like they are marketing themselves very well. i see a testimonial, pricing, call to action, all on the homepage. the vast majority of sites who claim to sell stuff do not convey such information as effectively.

i'm not saying i like it or think it's pretty. but the point of that page is not to be pretty, it is to generate leads in order to close a sale.

and yes, panos for real estate are not works of art. get over it smile work fast and smart and above all learn how to understand the client you're selling to. none of this is easy, but i think anyone can do it, IF they decide they are going to really make the effort.

good luck

Shave your lens with Tobias :-)
Shave your lens with Tobias :-)

Here is a nice service -

I bought a new Samyang 8mm (well, Vivitar 7mm to be exact) and wanted it shaved. I don't have a dremel or other stuff, and I knew there would be issues with the lens cap. So I found out that Tobias Vollmer can do it. I mailed him the lens, and less than a week later, I have it back in my hands. It is a perfect job, it looks like this is how you buy the lens! And it's got a brand new, hand-machined lens cap that fits absolutely perfectly.

So, as a satisfied customer, thank you Tobias! Here is his website. He also shaves nikkor 10.5, tokina 10-17 I guess.

if you want CHEAP get a used canon 350d

or a nikon d40. these are CHEAP!

samyang lens is also cheap.

a string and a key are very cheap, and with practice, yes, you can make PERFECT handheld panoramas. Don't listen to anyone who says this is not true. They probably sell panoheads wink www.philohome.com/tripod/shooting.htm

have fun,
Jeffrey

UPDATE: Oops, I saw the whole thread now.
You spent $900 and you have an fc-e8? I really think you made the wrong decision. You could spend less and have an SLR with at least double the resolution. fc-e8 does not give usable fullscreen panos. Well, it's your decision. I wish you a great bike ride in any case!

HI,

You absolutely DON'T need a panohead. (for exterior / daylight panos anyway)

If you need to practice first all you need is a piece of string and a key.

Check panoverflow where this question was asked already (remember to vote up the question if you find it useful by clicking on the arrows)

panoverflow.com/questions/3/work-around-for-no-pa...

With practice you can shoot also interior panos without a panohead, perfectly. Check Heiwa4126' panos, they are nearly all handheld, and perfect!
www.360cities.net/profile/heiwa4126

fyi I rarely use a panohead anymore when shooting outside in daylight. Especially these days when stitching/blending programs work so well! If you check my panos from havana
www.360cities.net/map#lat=23.13602&lng=-82.36047&zoom=15
or helsinki,
www.360cities.net/map#lat=60.16312&lng=24.94154&zoom=14
they're nearly all handheld.
