It can be done in DevalVR and most likely in flash too.

For DevalVR the result will be a CD which will can run on every computer with Windows regardless of having DevalVR installed or not.
How I see this is more like a popup graphic window floating in panorama in which info about any region indicated by mouse's tilt and pan, those infos are available in DevalVR.

Dorin

Thanks Dorin. I don't think I'll need to make a CD. The intent is to provide it for a web page - although that's a good option to have. I like the idea of the floating "info" window with the name changing as you hold the mouse over each person.
Unfortunately I am a Mac person. Never used Deval. I suppose I could install it on my Windows partition using Parallels. I just hate using Windows.......

going to be doing a big group photo (conventional) in October. 65 people.
My associate wants to see if they are up for something more creative - Like a 360 of the group around in a circle.
Then she asked - "can you do Hotspots?" Of course we can.
"Wouldn't be cool if they could move the cursor over their face and have their name pop up so others can tell who is who?"

Yep, that would be cool.
Can I do that???? I know we can do Hotspots to go to another image, but can we incorporate a Mouseover Text popup just by passing the mouse over the area? And if so, can I do 65 of them in one 360???

Anyone know?

"I finally had an Adobe/Macromedia Director developer make me a W3D player/projector. Director will not only output Shockwave files, but will also create "Projectors" which work great from CDs."

Can this be used with (both authoring and playing) Macs? I am a total Mac head, and not a web designer. I need something user friendly to create my files and it has to run and be run on both platforms.

I haven't been doing 6000x3000, but do 4000 & 5000 pixel wide all the time in PS-CS3 - Save for Web mode. It give e a warning window that says it may not work properly at that size, but does just fine every time.

Of course I have a MacPro & 10gb ram. That may help. But I did it on my G4 w/ 2GB ram before.

with a D300/ NN3 & 10.5mm - I used to skip the Nadir shot by tilting down. But I was having to either tilt the tripod to do a Nadir patch, or even using the horizontal post on my tripod ending up at a lower height was causing me to spend way more time getting the patch - and the color- right than I wanted.

I now use QR plates on camera and NN3 and a custom arm that hangs the camera off the tripod at the exact height of the NN3 for the patch.

I now only need do 1 Nadir shot on the NN3, then using Auto Align in Photoshop to match my patch in the Nadir frame, it saves me a good 45 minutes of screwing around Before stitching. Then I include my retouched Nadir frame in my stitch. No retouching needed later. And extra step in shooting, way less work post process.

I also use the D300 & 10.5mm w/ NN3. I used to do 15º down, but now that I use a Quick Release plate on the NN3, my base is bigger and 10º is fine. 15º only gives me more tripod base so I prefer more overlap on top.

Also 6 frames around, 1 up, one down on the NN3, then one with a custom arm made by Dennis Stover to do the Nadir patch.

Hi michael, I sent you a private note but I'm sure others want to know. Are you using software to generate your pano pages - or writing them yourself? If software, which? I like the fullscreen QT pages, but the Auto-detect feature is something I would like too.
I am NOT a web designer and need something to create the pages for me. Been playing around with Pleinpot for my QT pages (not yet on my site - only Java there), but it doesn't have the features your pages do - dual resolution, Autodetect, QT or Flash versions. Oh yeah - I'm on a Mac, not PC
I would pay for a template or page generator that does this.......
Nice work by the way, really.

Hi gang, why do some of you choose to use Cube faces in the final published imge rather than Spherical (Equirectangular) images?

I've only used the equirectangular images for my finals. Aluse do the Cube faces for retouching. I have seen mentioned a couple of times that the image quality may be better this way, but I need to understand the reasons.

thanks!

Don't know what ithers do - but I take my finished HiRes spherical Tif, resize it in Photoshop first to 4000x2000, then use "Save For Web" and adjust the quality to the file size I want. lately I'm ending up with between 1~1.5 meg and the image quality seems pretty fine to me. THEN use your pano2qtvr or in my case PureTools to create the page. Since the image is already compressed for the web, keep the quality setting in pano2qtvr to 95 or 100%
These 2 were both done this way:

Thanks John. I thought I had PanoTools. I think what I have is an old version. I need to upgrade to the newest one. When I get it I will try this.

In the meantime I think I figured out how to use Stitcher to do this.
I loaded the single image for the Nadir shot. Then Rendered it as a "Sanpshot"
Snapshot mode in Stitcher is for printing flat images of just what is showing on screen. So I can zoom in a bit - only show the center section of the shot (with plenty of room to spare), then in Render > Render Area>Define Area - you can drag out the area of the image you want to see.

The Snapshot mode pretty much remaps the shot. I had just a slight bit of barrel distortion that Photoshop>Filters>Distort>LensCorrect fixed in 2 seconds.

Voila! Totally rectilinear Nadir Patch! Quite pleased with myself actually for figuring it out.......

I usually use my 10.5 nikon, but I have some new 8mm panos that I need to Defish the Nadir shot for a patch. For some reason I can't find anywhere the proper settings for DeFish and the 8mm with the Nikon.

I can get close, but it's still not as rectilinear as I'd like.
I do NOT have PTgui.
I do have the LensFix CI plugin for Photoshop. Also can't find settings for that. Maybe I have to crop it first?

I've read that I couls use RV Stitcher (my program) to defish it, but I can't see how to do that either.

DeFish works very well for the 10.5 - and if I had the right numbers I suspect it will be fine for the 8 too. I just can't figure it out.

I found this post: www.chem.ox.ac.uk/oxfordtour/tutorial/index.asp?I...

But it is for use with a Cannon 10D. The end result loses much o fthe image.

Help.......

I've been talking to a guy in tech at RealViz too. He told me (about v5.6) that it could be a file naming issue - I tend to make my file names too long or contain too much info - and also to trash the Preferences.

I haven't done it yet, but I'm going to trash my prefs, then reset my saved Render settings, put several saved Projects - ready to render - in a simplified folder path, with short names (pano1 ,pano2, etc) and try a batch again.

If this does not work, I'll open the .rzs file and add /Volumes/ to the path name & try again.

I'll post my results when I do this. Probalby this weekend.

The link seems to be broken (for me) and when I try to view the panos on your Portfolio page I get aqn error message - Deval plugin not found. (Safari).

I am able to view Deval images on other sites. I was undr the impression that the Deval player was something that resides on your server, not a plugin that I need to view it. Is this wrong?
