Pano2Movie Problem please help...

Hi all,

Thanks to everyone who has provided me with further information, either in this thread or via email.

Unfortunately, I still can't duplicate the problems, either with 'as-is' movie or converted movie as the output.

Could everyone who is seeing this problem please email me a screengrab showing the settings in the main window, the preferences window and the export settings palette? Mail to support (add an at) pano2movie (add a com), and add the *exact* version of Pano2Movie and QuickTime that you are using.

Thanks,

Ian

Kyle & Will, give me a chance! It's the middle of the weekend, I'm in a foreign country and I was at a friend's wedding all of yesterday. confused
As a general rule, Friday afternoons (I'm in the UK, so Kyle's email arrived at 13:34) aren't the best time to get an instant response, even if I'd been in the office...

Kyle - I've had one other report mentioning error messages about files already existing, but I can't reproduce the problem which makes it *extremely* hard to fix.

Troubleshooting stuff - what version of Pano2Movie is this? 2.0, 2.0.1, 2.0.2, the 2.1 beta? Operating system - I assume you're using Windows from your posts here? Version of QuickTime that's installed?
Do you get the same error with different length sequences, with JPEG frames rather than PNG, with 'as-is' QuickTime export? Does the error occur every time or only sometimes?

Will - it's possible it may have got lost somewhere, but I can't find any record of communication from you, either by direct email, the contact form on the website or the forum on the website. I can't fix problems that I don't know about...

That said, if you're on Windows and seeing crashes *when loading a QTVR file*, this appears to be a conflict between the development environment that Pano2Movie is written in and some graphics card drivers.
I don't know if this is the problem you are seeing as 'everytime it crashes' doesn't narrow it down much, but if this is the problem then the only option is to look for alternative drivers for your graphics card. sad

I'm really no better off than I would have been using my 18-70 which I'm pretty sure could have done sphericals in two passes also (albeit with more shots 10 vs 6).

Nikon 18-70 @18 - 10 shots x2
Sigma 10-20 @10 - 6 shots x2

Not quite.

The 18mm would only give ~48 degree vertically, so you'd be looking at four rows, total 40 shots - more than three times as many as with your 10mm, and a good chance that the top row will contain no detail for stitching.

Nice high res, though. smile

Use the Space bar to register keyframes when recording.
Use the Space bar to play/pause playback when editing, and the Home key to jump back to the beginning of the timeline.
Bezier points can be smooth curves or sharp corners.
Edit the values of keyframes by dragging anchor points up and down
Keyframes can be moved by dragging the keyframe.

In-game panos are usually generated by the game engine, some of the engines let you freeze the game and script the location of the camera for screengrabs, so you 'simply' shoot the six cube faces and whack them into Pano2VR or similar.

Just a quick note that Pano2Movie 2.0.2 came out a few weeks ago with a bunch of bugfixes, and a revamped website with better navigation.

As always, your 2.0 licence works for all 2.x releases...

Making a DVD of panos
Re: Making a DVD of panos

It looks like that GoNY DVD uses some form of fisheye projection instead of the rectilinear projection that most pano players use. Odd.

Panoramic menus in DVDs have to be put together from a series of separate video files which will then be encoded like any other video asset - the easiest way to think of it is like the cut scenes you often get when moving from menu to menu on better DVDs, but with a lot of thought gone into how each menu links together.

Ian (developer of Pano2Movie)

P.S. Example movies to come on the revamped site, but as Hans points out, it's pretty easy to download the trial version and try it out yourself.

The Sony site uses video fly-throughs generated from 3D modelling - there's no panoramic stuff in it, although it's a great bit of interface design.

You will need to make a linear movie from your QTVR and feed that movie into your DVD authoring software. I made a shareware app that will make the linear movie, Mac or PC, QuickTime Pro required.
