How does the Lightroom 3 (LR3) Raw conversion compare to DoX or Capture NX2?
I have LR3 & PS CS3 and find that LR3 has more features. Also, fairly simple batch conversion. You do a conversion on a single photo and apply it to the rest of the photos in the folder.
Looks like most people here are using Photomatix. I use EnfuseGUI. How do Photomatix & EnfuseGUI compare? I get noticeable halos especially around a darker foreground against a blue sky. Are there any parameters in Enfuse that can be tweaked to compensate for the halo affects?

I think what makes this forum exiting and very entertaining is to read the heated arguments/debates between the likes of Doug & Smooth. Keep it up .
My 2 cents: I think what is more valuable that a member's rating is rating about products, software, work flows, ...
This can be achieved by a polling system in this forum. A member starts a poll and readers can do the voting.

How come no software is doing this (unless it already exists):
A program like EnfuseGUI or PhotoMatix which imports a single RAW, internally does the pseudo brackets merges and produces a final HDR image.

Terry Montague said: I will let Robert Answer your question but don't forget option 5.
5. Shoot bracketed RAW which should result in the best dynamic range of all options.
BTW If you get stuck on option 3 just let me know I would be happy to help.
-Terry
Terry - Yes, option five would be the best. However, I am trying to get best results with a single shot mainly to reduce my work flow and because a lot of my shots are outside with a lot of movement in windy conditions. Thanks for your offer to help. I will get back with you if needed when I test drive the DxO.

Thank you all for your feedback & suggestions. My main goal is to cut down & simplify my current post processing work flow. I am trying to not have to shoot shoot bracketed shots. I will try DxO & Capture NX2 to see which is faster.
Excluding noise reduction, the list below shows my understanding of what results the best dynamic range image listed in order from bad to best:
1. Single jpg (bad) 2. Shoot bracketed jpgs, then HDR merged. (this is what I currently use - I get pretty descent results but I am trying to avoid having to shoot the brackets) 3. Single RAW, then split to 3 tiff brackets +-2 f-stops, then merge. (Terry's suggestion) 4. Single RAW, one conversion to tiff and refine using curves. (Robert's suggestion)
Robert Harshman said: ...learn to use a single RAW file for all it's worth from one conversion to 16 bit TIFF or PSD and then refine with curves.
I would like to experiment with options 3 & 4. Robert - Does option 4 result wide dynamic range just as good as option 3?

I have read on this forum about being able to generate +- 2 f-stop images from a raw file and doing 3 bracket shot HDR by merging -2 0 +2 images obtained from a single raw file.
Is there a command line or a batch process utility which will take a single raw file and generate the -2 0 +2 brackets from a single raw image?
Are the bracket results obtained from a single raw file the same as shooting 3 bracketed jpg images?

A lot of members of this forum are also product/software developers that are valuable members and contributors to Panorama industry. They should have every right to continue to post and discuss their products on this forum.
Charles - In the spirit of keeping this forum public, you should give other software developers that compete with TW a chance to discuss their offerings for the better good of the panorama community.

A Quote from the email that I got from Tour Wrist:
Email from Tour Wrist said: ... you'll no longer be presented with paid, third–party ads or unsolicited commercial announcements...
Basically what Tour Wrist is saying that you will not see any third-party commercial announcement EXCEPT the ones from Tour Wrist.
I hope for the longevity of this forum that TW keeps and runs this forum as a public forum as it has been for ever, and that it respects the privacy of its members.

Why is Tour Wrist sending me spam email trying to sell me their products? Any body else received email from TW?
Did Tour Wrist buy Panoguide? If so, does that give them the right to send me commercial emails using this forum's mailing list especially when I elected not to receive any commercial announcement when I joined this forum?
What gives ????

Both versions running at about 70% CPU on windows XP.
One difference between the two is the mouse wheel not working for zooming in/out in second example but works in the first!

I have an older model Nikon D70s that does not have D-Lighting feature that the newer models have. I shoot most of my shots with 3 exposure bracketing and merge to get good shadow/highlights.
Would the D-Lighting feature in newer cameras be a substitute to needing to do exposure bracketing?
Can Software post processing achieve the same D-Lighting results that the camera's built-in feature can do?
Is D-Lighting feature the same on all Nikon cameras?

Heinz - I tried the site that you mentioned. It only returned shutter count of 9221. I know that my camera has more that 9221 shutter count, so the web site result is not taking into consideration that the camera has rolled over the 16 bits counter variable.
Andrew - Yes, I was planning on buying a used camera on Ebay that advertise a low shutter count. I guess with there is no way to find the actual shutter count on a used camera .

Read somewhere that the Nikon (D70s) embeds the shutter count in the picture's Exif data. Yes it does and also noticed that the counter in the exif data resets after about 65K.
Can someone confirm the 65k rollover? Is there any other way to get the true count of the shutter release count?
