Special thanks to Hans,

It all works with a "this is very good result" with A=59.5, B=94.
The thing is that I got used to creating spherical panoramas with two portrait orientation rows (Nikkor 12-24). The rule to set control points only on flat surfaces of a nadir image is not important there and one can put such a point even on an object that juts out 90 degrees.
I followed this rule using Sigma 8. Besides a panoramic head was that high that non-flat objects didn't totally fit in portrait orientation shots (I tested it very close to a PC table and other stuff). Even using "blending priority" in PTGui or "blended and layers" in Photoshop wouldn't help as the lowest parts of objects were outside lens coverage as I said. I tried to put control points as Hans said (and as is written in viewpoint correction) and it looked like it worked. Then I set the panoramic head lower so that the lens could totally cover non-flat objects. And it perfectly worked.

Thanks very much again

Thank you very much, Hans

I know that lots of forum participants use the same equipment. May be someone will read it and tell me about the A and B settings for D300 and Sigma8smile

Thanks

Yes, I take a Nadir shot handheld and is always OK (www.panoguide.com/gallery/user/3992/). Now I do the same operations (viewpoint correction) to optimize it when using Sigma 8. But everything fails.
When I determined the B setting for Nikkor 12-24 I used two poles to see if the distance between them change when rotating the camera so I could slide it on the upper rail until the distance between them got stable. That point when the distance didn't change was the B setting. But It doesn't work for Sigma 8 (at least I can't do that) because my eye doesn't perceive if anything changes (even though my sight is perfect).

Thank you very much for your replies.
...My camera is Nikon D300 (as written above)

Tried to stitch a panorama now in PTGui. Have encountered problems: vertical shots are ok and PTGui gives "this is very good". When I add a zenith shot - "this is good". Adding a nadir shot - "this is very bad" and a real mess.
The problem is that I do the same what I usually do when make spherical panoramas with shots made by Nikkor 12-24. I even don't take much care taking a nadir shot because I know that PTGui will optimize it and it does. But now being very precarious taking a nadir shot PTGui anyway doesn't fit it properly and all optimized vertical shots get misaligned. Do you think it's because my NN5 Sigma 8 setting is wrong? If yes, why the vertical shots are stitched with a "this is very good" result?

Thank you

Hello,

Please, excuse me if this was discussed before but didn't find it in the forum.
I used to make spherical panoramas with Nikkor 12-24. Yesterday I bought Sigma 8/3.5. What are the rail settings on the Nodal Ninja 5? Ninja website says it sould be A=56, B=87. But as I understand A unlike B doesn't depend on a lens other than a type of a camera. With Nikkor 12-24 the lower rail setting that I used was at A=59.5 and is OK. Is there any range from A=x to A=y when the setting is considered to be correct?
Do fisheye shots have to be processed in terms of distortions before going to PTGui or it's OK not to do that?

Thank you very much
Best
