dear hans, i never thought to hurt any expert here. as my routine practice to reduce indoor thing like lamps high voltage lights etc i do take more brackets. year ago i was shooting with 5 brackets and now i do 7 as the final output gives me better enfuse result in indoor panorama's. i never tried taking 5 after i got results of 7 bracketed enfuse.
anyways i apologise if i hurt you.
i have tried enfuse first and then stitch but what here i do is if suppose i stitch 7 blend spherical's and one enfuse and thenafter if i need to re enfuse them with lightest part or darkest part to recover some hard burned light or part i will have better chance and if suppose i do enfuse first and then stitch i would not have a perfect idea of how the whole spherical will look after stitch unless i give final output.
btw i have just installed ptgui 64bit on my q6600 and installed 64bit xp pro and found that i can stitch my 7*7=49 images with 7 blended spherical and one enfuse in just 4 minutes and as i use template system with my fixed parameter of nn3 i do have almost 0 stitching errors on most of my panoramas.
i just want to look at tunning the system for pagefile, temp partition's on how and where to make them to work faster with little more size e.g. 10000 x 5000 or may be double for printing giant hording and making gigapixel panorama.
thanks for all your replies on this thread. would sure do some test on your suggested criteria of taking less brackets as if it can solve my masking of windows and other.
in 3 bracket if i meter general exposure and then take +-2 bracket with 1ev max in nikon steps it dont provide me perfect shot of windows even majority times in our indian indoor lighting we find that taking 5 bracket makes less so i do take 7 and so it becomes habit to click 7 quick at one stop
anyways thanks a lot

here is my test report
I am using d200 + nikkor 10.5 6 + 1(zenith) = 7 * 7(brackets) = 49 shots
PTGUI 8beta3 PTGui Final output : 4:00 Wraping Started ## 4:16 Blending Started ## 4:17 Exposure Fusion Started ## 4:19 completed 6000 x 3000 outputsize
20 minutes to give 7 blended spherical + 1 enfused result saving
is there any way we can still improve speed ? will 64bit allow me to use all my 4 core's of process and 4gb ram to be utilised ? as what i seen now is not more than 1gb ram is being used though i set 80% ram to be used by ptgui in option and process all 4 core running at 11 to 15% in whole process.
please guide me.

i've just bought new system here are the specs of my new system
Intel Q6600 Quad Core processor 2.4ghz Intel DG33FB motherboard 2x 160gb STAT with 3gb/transfer 2x 2gb 800Mhz DDR2 Ram nVidia 7200 256mb Display Card
--------------------------------------- I have setup partition like this
DISK 1 C:\ 20gb Operating System (winxp pro 32bit) D:\ 20gb pagefile (5gb to 10gb set on this partition) E:\ rest space allocated for data
DISK 2 F:\ 30gb TEMP space G:\ rest space allocated for data
---------------------------------------------------- i gave test run just and found that everything speeds up up to exposure fusion in to PTGUI but when i put ptGUi in final output run (Create Panorama) it takes so much of time still compare to my dual core 2gb ram its same time it takes.
is there any method i can speed up this runtime panorama creation ?
i use 7x7(bracket)= 49 shot and give output thorugh ptGUi with exposure blending option (enfuse).
dont want to compromise on reducing brackets.
some expert guideline require please help me out.

i would suggest f11 is good for nikkor 10.5 what i seen in my most pano for depth.
next is whitebalance which you can better do with custom or kelvin with middle range between your window and inside light so that you can manage it later with either PS/Lightroom with window cutout .
stitch and work on either HDR/enfuse (i prefer enfuse gives better range in light and contrast and colours too). now you must have inidvidual spherical of each bracket and get it masked for windows in PS and give theme average tone suites your inside light and it should look gr8.
this is how i do work. in most cases you dont need to work on cutout with window if you use enfuse and it might not have heavy sunlight coming from windows.
rest keep on practice

no offense to other software.
but for me ptgui runs well on all my 2000+ pano i stitched to date.
i use d200 nikkor 10.5 nn3 manfrotto tripod and everything stitches perfect without any stitching error except minor zenith seams which can be easily touch up on PS without any extra efforts.
so my openion is going with ptGUi. just for others info
for newbie it might be possible that ptGUi at first step looks bulky to understand but its not like what it looks.
once you step in to working with ptGUI it will give you good help.
also tom you must check rosaurophotography.com for his best tech guide of how to setup camera tripod and shooting tips.
hope this helps.

dear doug, you are true on your aspects but as i tried most of the stitching software i found that everyone on their own standards.
some supports two three output methods where some on less but they concentrate on stitching more.
ptGUi stands in the list of software who concentrate on good stitching with HDR.
for giving different formate you have to still rely on different output software instead of stitching software.
and as per my view ptGUi has given me every possible ways to give good errorless stitching with my d200 and 10.5 or 8mm sigma both.
i will still suggest ptgui for stitching and pano2vr for qtvr and flash output. though i am not using flash because flash becomes resource hungry when it comes to panoramic display. i do give most output in qtvr and java and now i am going to apply devalvr also but flash is still far away in my output format list because of my clients target audience resource of pc.
hope this will help to reader of this post.

dear Tom, in regards to your willingness paying someone i would say if you carefully post your search query in this forum you will easily find your answers here without paying anyone and spending so much amount learning basics of panorama.
i have learnt through practice and after 3 years i am still learning new things and techniques to enhance my work.
i am in india and happy that i have done for more than 200 hotels work here without any competition.
right now i am on trip to shoot three hotels.
well back to your topic. I would suggest you to go on some place and start shooting outdoors exteriors.
read basics in this site. download some templates within forum links and ptGUi site and study those.
after spending some hours and your own shooting data you may have little judgement on how and when to shoot at what exposures and parameters in outdoor and indoor.
just keep on practicing and you will soon be expert on this line to produce some good quality pano's.
just drop me an email on "dzinepixel at gmail dot com" and i'll be happy to answer you as far as i am online at that time.

i am with hans. i used ptgui, easypano, tourweaver, autopano, realviz and many more to test.
my experience with ptgui is best amongs all. since i am doing pano work from last 3 years i would say that pgGUi has given the best on all.
i have very less hurdles with it.
The fact i would say is dont expect everything 100% perfect.
software is just a thought of one expert to help others but the one using it might have different mind and expertise and digestive power so just try every demo possible and judge your own strength.
as far as easiness or user friendliness is concern i must say if you use ptGui for atleast 20 pano in different situation you will better work with ptGUi in less time than any other software available.
ptGUi is so active in all the stitching software category and they give every latest option available in industry.
would say give some time to it and you will be soon one of us on suggestion of ptgui list.
