FJ, don't give up. Using PTGUI, it stitched fine after adjusting a few things. Doing an automatic stitch gave a lens type of circular (under lens settings) which obviously causes problems. Changing that to Rectilinear gives us a head start but I still had to move images manually into roughly the right location by Mode > Edit Individual Images in the Panorama Editor. Then Align Images again, and they fell into place.
It would probably be a good idea to calibrate your lens for future stitches. www.path.unimelb.edu.au/~bernardk/tutorials/360/c...

FJ, we've all been there. Tell us what you tried... what camera, lens, what tripod and pano head (or handheld). What process from start to finish...

AJ, what type of pano do you want to take, spherical or single-row? I assume from your questions that you want to start with single row... The basic equipment needed are camera, tripod, and preferably with a panorama head so the camera rotates around the no parallax point. Especially if you are taking shots indoors with objects close to the camera, the pano head it essential.
Your camera should have an exposure-lock function, or have the ability to lock the exposure by setting a manual mode. Also desirable is to lock the white balance for your overlapping shots. That will give you shots that match in color and exposure from one to the other.
Get that equipment, practice processing the photos with the software you have, and then come ask some more questions.
Check out the "How To" section of this site, www.panoguide.com/howto/ or the panotools wiki wiki.panotools.org/ for loads of info to help you get started.

I say well done... your client should be happy. After installing DevalVR plugin, works fine on PC/Firefox2/DevalVR.

Thanks Michael, I thought of that but I'm nowhere Carel's height. I'm just a normal tallish guy. There might be 4 or 5 inches between a 'normal' height and what I'm looking for... would it make that much difference? Maybe I should do a test...

I'm 6'3" (190cm), what tripod would you recommend so I can look through the viewfinder without stooping? I use a 400D, NN3, Sigma 8mm. Preferably would be sturdy, light, small nadir footprint.
Thanks, Scott

Gus, on Firefox 2.0.0.12 (PC), it all works great. I used auto, and each of the other radio buttons, looks good. Even removed the www. and same good result.

Panosaurus for sale, black finish just like on the web site. Only used once, works great. Well made, very solid. I'll ship in the original box. Includes all parts and documentation.
gregwired.com/pano/Detail1.htm
$65 plus shipping to continental US. I could entertain shipping elsewhere if you will pay the shipping costs.
I do accept Paypal.

Thanks Gus and John, that worked great. My avg distance is .25, max is .92 and got "This is too good to be true." YES!
The missing piece of the puzzle in my mind was "what does that save you?" I guess doing it this way allows you to use known accurate lens parameters rather than trying to stitch and optimize what could sometimes be a poor subject for the stitch. In my test case, this produced a very clean stitch requiring no additional control points. What other advantages do you see for doing the lens calibration?
It appears my most simple workflow could now be shoot load images align images create panorama
Next I will work on batching.
