Hello,

Is it possible to put VR panos on a CD or DVD and have them play back - either in auto-start or with mouse controls?

How could this be done?

Thanks,

Hamish

Use of Panos for school security

Has anybody got any experience of using VR Panos as a school security enhancement? In the unhappy event of a hostage situation, visiting SWAT teams etc. could have a complete and detailed view of every room and common area in a school - or other institution. Is this actually in use anywhere?

Also - is it possible to put VR panos on a CD or DVD - probably not interactive - but how would one do this?

Thanks,

Hamish

I had put this in the wrong forum just a few minutes ago.

Just wanted folks to see some hand held panos: (The interior shot was not hand held)

This must have been asked before, please advise how to submit panos that appear at the top of Panoguide pages.

Also - my spherical images are 'cut' exactly at the ends - yet the ones at the top of the panoguide pages tend to show an additional 20% or more on the ends - how does that happen? Is it necessary to produce them this way in order to appear at the top of Panoguide pages?

Thanks,

You and John think similarly on this one. Even though the legal expert has advised me as above - you are probably right - move on and sleep at night.

Cheers,

Hamish.

Yes, frankly, I could. But the guy has been so rude and aggressive with the whole thing I just hate to concede. But I may not have to...

Here's what I found out.

You have something here that is known as a defense that your use of the term is "merely descriptive" and under the Landham Act, this type of use is permissible as long as it is the accepted name in the photography field for this type of photography and had it been known to the US Patent and Trademark Office at the time they may have denied his trademark as merely descriptive. One cannot trademark something that is not a unique name, similar to trying to trademark the term "Color Television" it merely describes what the item is as opposed to the term "Xerox" which while it may have become synonomous with photocopies, is not the same. At this point you need to write a letter to him and inform him that the term he has trademarked is "merely descriptive" under the Landham Act in the photography business and as such in relation to describing your photography you are free to use the term regardless of his mark and if he wants to go to court then he can run the risk of losing his mark altogether.

To all repliers - Thank you - I hope this has been interesting.

Hamish.

I somehow think the courts (if it gets that far) would see through this little ploy. But thanks.

Thanks,

But lawyers here are $250 / hr. Even a letter would just kill me - I'm Scottish, after all.

Doug, Well, he apparently has the trade name as well. But please see my answer in response to 'all' who replied below.

Wish I could...but today I was 'served' at my home by sheriff's officers with a 'demand letter' from his lawyer that I change or remove the offensive term. But please see later for my answer to all replies.

There is a guy in my town with a web site called 'VR Interactive' and he has registered that name.

He is now threatening me with his lawyer because I use the words 'vr interactive' (once) to describe my product, among other things. I don't use it to identify myself or my business and it does not appear in the title - just part of the text on www.Hamishtearphotographics.com

Sure enough, if you Google 'VR Interactive Jackson Hole' the search finds both his site and mine. That would annoy me too - but is he just posturing with the lawyer threat?

I suppose I can't really ask for 'legal advice' but opinions would be welcome.

Thanks

Hi Mediavets,

Thanks for this...the Pano2VR solution looks like a winner.
I have also been in the habit of taking two zenith shots at +65 and using one or other or both.

Thanks for that,

Hamish.

Lens Calibration
Lens Calibration

Whilst following Lens Calibration advice from PTGui Q&A 6.4,
it advises to make sure there are CP's in the corners. (Once optimized to distances of less than 3.5 - all CP's tend to be clustered in or around the middle of the overlaps.) However, if I do install corner CP's myself, using 'jump' feature - they always have unacceptable distances involved. Does anybody have suggestions as to how I could improve on this - and is it, in fact necessary to have these CP's in the overlap corners?

Also - the last exercise is to copy the lens calibration results into the 'save as' dialog box, but no real explanation of just what to record exactly, or how to record it. Is it for my use or the program's? Do I write it in any way I wish or does it have to be a table of sorts? Does PTGui use this saved information by default - or do I have to enter it at some point?

(I am going to assume that making a template using this calibrated lens info will just take care of it anyway.)

I also wonder if using templates renders the check for for Automatic 'use exif data' irrelevant?

Thanks,

Hamish Tear.
