Motorized or not motorized...that's the question.

Hi everyone,

I need to capture at least 150 cubic panoramas in 7 different locations in 6 weeks (pre-production / scouting and production) in a first phase of the project.

The camera to use would be a D300 +10.5 mm and possibly a wide angle lens (12-24 mm / 10-24 mm) to obtain higher resolution to print posters of equi/cil images. In many of the scenarios it would be necessary to use the bracketing mode and also capture panos from a elevated mast (7-9 mts.).

The funding given is enough to acquire a high-end motorized VR head like the Roundshot VR Drive, MK Panomachine or the Rodeon CL. But I doubt if the use of a motorized head would really benefit the production in this case: real time saving, possibility of creating templates for batch processing, influence in the final quality of the images (stitching), simplification of work, etc., in this case would the investment in a motorized head (USD 2,500 to USD 5,000) be worth it and adequate?.

I would appreciate an opinion.

How can this be done with FPP (low and high ressolución in one FPP file); Is it an external link from low res archive?

Hi nick2k3,

Check CubicConector (Mac App): www.clickheredesign.com.au/cubicconnector/
You can see an example of its use in connecting multiple VR panoramas:
www.visiondigital-vr.com/portafolio/
Click on "Casa Tibet México"
The VT contains two types of sensitive areas: inside (hotspots) and outside the VR panoramas through buttons.

Hi Canadian,

I use a very simple program (Ezedia QTI: www.ezedia.com/products/eZediaQTI/) with which you can publish HTML easily using QuickTime objects (VR panos, VR Objects), still images, buttons, sounds, etc.).
My portafolio and all Virtual Tour in this Webpage have been do with this app. www.visiondigital-vr.com/portafolio

I visited your site (midwestvirtualtours) where you offer VT for Real State and for commercial use and I was astonished by the prices, very surprised I think they are very low in comparison to the quality of your VT ¿How are you able to offer this low prices? I so that you took off the prices of the packages (...gold, premium,...) from your web page, this is good sign, it seems that you are reconsidering them. smile

Is true that your templates are simple (and with a little work of design they could improve a lot), the work of transporting yourself to the location, use of photographic and VR equipment to take the photos, ensambling, retouching, etc. and publishing the VR's with the technology G2 of ImmerVision and after inserting the VR + still images in a simple web page in your server with free hosting (!!), in my opinion this is good effort for which you charge very low. ¿how do you do it to have utilities: is it for quantity; what is the secret?

Best regards

Hi Jorgen,
I agree with Doug: You don't need a specific program to construct a VT, you can design and construct it with much simpler tools like HTML and Flash. I use a very simple program (Ezedia QTI) with which you can publish HTML easily using QuickTime objects (VR panos, VR Objects), still images, SWF objects, buttons, sounds, etc.). The important part is skin interphase design and the creativity with which you generate the final product. You can see some examples in:

Cubic Connector works very well to observe a still image from a panorama vr.
What you need to do is to match the size of the still image with the size of the panorama VR to avoid distortions. Always leave a space around the still image for the (arrow) returne botton so it doesn't invade the space.
Take in account the resolution of the still image, so not much resolution is lost when you activate the zoom and to control de size of the file so it doesn't get to big. You have to look for a balance. With Option+click you can examine the still image we this has a degree of zoom.

Look a this example that I made for a museum in México. The sixth panorama from left to right (Sala Neoclásico y Romántico), has a hot spot to see the detail of one the painting in the exposition (naked).

Tourweaver 3 (Windows) is a good alternative for you. Or the new Panowalkerr beta version (Windows). Check this links:

Hi Rogers,

Check this link: forum.kinoma.com/showthread.php?t=1560
With Kinoma Software installed on your Palm you can see QTVR. Supposedly it also runs in the Ipod. In the Kinoma's Web page says: "..with Kinoma Player 4 EX's amazingly smooth scrolling 360 degree QuickTime VR panoramas." www.kinoma.com/Player4

Hi Michael, check your source images; if you make a vr panorama from a equi image, it must be a "standard" JPG archive, non "progressive". Perhaps this helps.
