I wouldn't recommend to start with that kind of specialized equipment. It also is a proprietary system and quite a bit outdated. Unless you precisely know what you are doing and what this camera is made for, keep your hands off.

Which are these? What do you expect from such an organization?
@ Dorin
Dorin said: That must be because I'm not a member of such organization, of course.
Definitely not. You will not be able to get a photo permit for any major sports event without the accreditation through either a major media outlet, a major picture agency or a major news-agency. No membership of any organization will get you in there. Also be advised that even if you would manage to get an official accreditation you will not be allowed to use the images for any other purpose then journalism.

A customer of mine is selling his Rodeon ST VR-head. It's the version with a brake: dr-clauss.de/VRHeadST_DE.htm
It's a complete package including Berlebach tripod, Asus PDA with controller software and PC software Rodeon Preview, batteries, cables, ...
All packed in a suitable aluminum box, like new and without signs of use.
As a new head alone sells for almost 6,000 US$ this is no flea-market offer. If you have a serious interest please contact me through e-mail for detailed information.

Holy cow, Judy. What a beautiful view I thought, but when I turned the panorama it almost knocked me off the chair.
I was immediately reminded of a mountain scenery I shot recently (and which is now hanging 10m wide outside our local climbing hall). This is the spherical I did in that place bavaria360.de/sebensee/sebensee.html
Luckily there are (still) some laws that would keep people from buildig a hotel here.

Frankie, many of is already use the Tokina 10-17 for the same reason and purpose. To prevent unwanted movement of the focal length ring we use a piece of tape to fix it. Many are waiting to see if the Canon 8-15 will help to improve image quality, but as all sees are rather satisfied with the Tokina it will at least be a good and much cheaper alternative.

I shoot those with 4 around, in this case from a handheld monopod. Finishing was pretty easy, just some minor corrections in PS layers.
Although I didn't do that for the first time the outcome is hardly predictable and highly depends on the individual subject. But I can assure you that this is the common practice amongst all colleagues and thus pretty much straightforward once you have learned how to handle your gear and understand the workflow to get a perfect stitch.

Best way is to go out and find people who listen to you.
To make them listen you have to present them something that they immediately recognize as something they need for their business.
So narrow your target market, make a kick ass presentation and get people hooked to talk to them.
Good luck. Jürgen

If you want a perfect result the afterwork in PS is much more hassle when you try to substitute a proper head.
Especially with rooms any other method has its limitations. Think of slight movements, exposure time, alignment of multi exposures, ...
If you think that carrying and setting up your gear is a hassle you most likely have the wrong equipment.

With the 10.5 one must also stop down the aperture by using a small piece of something at the lever at the back of the lens. Which is not much of a problem as it is either used full open for low light or stopped down to 8 or 11. If I remember correctly there might be an adapter which allows more aperture options but these are expensive.
