Mitchell is fast, makes the files smaller and the quality is up there with Lanczos (with no oversharpening) or Blackman.

I see you have given this some serious thought, appreciate it.
Not to be misunderstood, it’s certainly nice to have synonyms and variety in language, of course, but I believe here it's more hurting us, then helping us, with SO many different, often disharmonic usages out there today.
The important thing to keep in mind, I think, is that it's not so much about making it easier for us, it's about making it easier for the customers to discern, order, talk and think about our product/products in clearer terms. Clearer for them. The problem is not with us, we know what everyone here is saying, whatever the term, we often get it anyway, it’s an everyday part of our life. Well mine, anyways. But for many-a-potential customer out there it’s completely new and sometimes utterly overwhelming.
They like what they see and they want it, but how are they to know exactly what this “thing” is, and compare it adequately, when not even the people making it are sure, “haven't yet solidified an agreeable standard” amongst themselves even, as someone said.
Yes, of course there are already terms out there being used by the majority, but some of these terms need revising too, such as the “pano”, “panorama”, “panoramics”, "QTVR"...
QTVR was a proper term back in the days when 1 single 360° photo was THE technological miracle of the times, in itself, thus it wasn't sounding so strange to say, for example: „One Quicktime Virtual Reality“, „Two Quicktime Virtual Realities“, “3 QTVR's“and so on. But nowdays it does sound somewhat perplexing, not least for the „unconsecrated“. This especially since the QTVR is not the only player on the market nowdays, there are of course all those new FlashVR's, DevalVR, JavaVR's, AldoVR... Ok, I made up that last one. And FlashVR's sometimes even contain QTVR's in themselves, to make it even simpler for the laymen customers to understand. Psssst, shush!
The main point is that we should move away from the „you call it this and I call it that“ model, and move more in the „this is what it's called from now on, let's start using it“ direction.
Hope this discussion continues and goes somewhere, with some concrete results in the future.
Best regards,
/Dalileis

Well. This just proves my point perfectly.
Which BTW has lots of irony in it, if you've happened to have missed it, and I don't know how you could have.
Anyways: Commercial Real Estate Photographer is not nailing the specific kind of photography we are talking about. Many Commercial Real Estate Photographers don't do VR at all, so that's a goner. Sorry.
"I like 360º but I have trouble sometimes remembering what key combination makes the degree symbol."
I agree with you on that. What's more important: customers have even more trouble with that.
Rest of the comments just prove the point that there are too many people using too many different expressions for the same thing.
Panoramas I don't like at all. Panorama a.k.a pano is for me equirectangular projection of 1 360° VR scene, NOT the VR scene itself. You are not wrapped inside a panorama, or better said, it shouldn't be used for that, since traditionally it has been used for something else. Two differnet things should not be called the same names, this is adding to the confusion.
On virtual tours, you've missed the point why I brought it up. It's being used in many cases for something completely different. I use it, you use it, but other people around the globe use it for something distinctly separate.
Best regards,
/Dalileis

It does raise an interesting question, a quandary If you will.
I wish the VR Photographers all around the world would stop inventing new terms and stick to the unified, properly standardized terminology.
With all due respect.
It´s far from definite and unequivocal at present.
Sometimes I feel silly explaining to the clients that the price for the virtual tour is “per VR”.
What is VR anyways?
Virtual Reality?
It feels stupid stating that the “price per Virtual Reality is…”
Is the term VR really the right term for 360° VR photo?
QTVR, FlashVR etc… same problem.
What do you call one interactive 360° photo?
Sometimes I even find myself actually saying a little something like this:
“Price for the virtual tour is per HQ FULLSCREEN HDR XL 3D 360° photo” (“which also comes in “smaller non-fullscreen, but still HQ HDR 3D 360° photo version”, “for slower conections”).
Now if that doesn´t sound silly, I don´t know what does.
Often I see customers faint before my very eyes. They don’t know how to process this.
Joking aside, this is a serious issue. You can actually see the clients lips slowly moving, forming the silent: “Whaaaaat?”, never saying it aloud, though.
And I understand them.
3D photo is wrong, because that´s something else.
But clients often use this exact expression, because it seems the most natural to them, upon seeing the product.
3D 360° Photo? Getting closer, but it's too long. And 3D is used for that other stuff, with the glasses.
360° VR photo? Alright, actually, I like this one the best, but it still doesn't roll off the tounge, and it's FAR from standardized.
I hope there were an initiative, perhaps from IVRPA, to make the definitive terminology that should be used in the field of 360° virtual reality photography and especially the virtual tours business.
It's actually harming everyone in it professionally, not having these things completely, unambiguously defined in terms that everyone would from that point on be starting to use, including THE CLIENTS themselves. Because of this confusion I often see people asking me about „that thing you can like spin, you know, on the screen, what do you call that...?“
Indeed, what DO we call it?
We call it all kinds of things, as it is today.
Poll on this... On IVRPA, or here, or elsewhere, would be good. Well executed, sound, long term (at least couple of months), high-quality poll. Think about it, isn't it about time?
Also: if you google „virtual tours“ it's often used for something completely different, like regular photos in combo with some text, and organized through some kind of map etc... in order to form a rather simple webpage, which than is called virtual tour. And many Interent users think of THIS, instead of the virtual tours we think about, when we hear/say the expression.
360° virtual tours, right. But it's not being used, because it's much easier to just go: virtual tour.
And now... HDVR.
Should I now also be starting with: HDVR HQ FULLSCREEN HDR XL 3D 360° photo” (“which also comes in “smaller HDVR HQ but still……………………………………………………..)?
ROTFL!
There have even been discussions on the use of “Panographer” instead of simply VR Photographer.
Let's stick to this one at least. So I at least know what to call myself, when someone asks me, „so what do you do...“ If it continues like this I'll soon be saying non-sense like: „Well, actually, I'm a HDVR HQ FULLSCREEN HDR XL 3D 360° VR Ph... „
Bottom line.
We need proper, definite terminology, that rolls of the tongue, sounds good (cool) and is widely accepted and easily recognized by professionals and layman (customers) alike. So everyone interested effortlessly knows exactly what the thing they've seen and want to order is called, and everyone else is calling it the same, no more confusion, panorama this, 360 that.
I suggest:
1 VR photo 1 VR video 2 or more VR photos 2 or more VR videos
And simply:
VR tours (for VR photo tours) VR video tours (for the future tours containing VR video)
Other suggestions...
1 VR photo could also be 1 VR scene.
1 VR scene 2 or more VR scenes
Or
1 360° scene 2 or more 360° scenes
I also use the term VR scene (virtual reality scene) quite often, and it seems to be easily accepted by clients, rather logical.
These are not perfect, of course, so please feel free to think of something better, just everyone sticks to using it then, once it's been decided and agreed upon by the VR community.
And that's all I had to say about HDVR.
Best regards,
Anonymous HDVR HQ FULLSCREEN HDR XL 3D 360° VR Photographer...... (which alse does smaller versions.... #!$°×§@%

The more I look at it, the clearer it becomes. This will be MEGA. Wait till the Hollywood gets the sniff of this one. I can hear the movie industry changing. Mouses or other controlling devices attached to the seats of the future movie theaters, and it's all starting now, before our very eyes. Who will be the first? Who'll be the Hans of the future HQ panoramic video? It'll be interesting to watch. Shoud I go for it, he said to himself. Probably more of you thinking the same. Time, is there enough time? Someone will do it. And there are important tutorials waiting to be written. In fact, could you link us to some quality ones Jeffff, if you know of any? Cheers and congratulation on you brand new VR video!

Neither did I. Sigma 8mm f/3.5 I know of, not sure if the 8mm f/2.8 even exists.

Hans
The opposite happens here, so I wouldn't be so sure about that.
1280 x 1024, banding in Firefox, not in IE and the others.
When changing to widescreen the banding actually disappears entirely in all the above specified browsers, including IE.

Hmm.
I've checked this on my system more thoroughly, Windows XP SP2.
Firefox 2.0.0.11 = banding
IE 7.0.5730.11 = no banding
Netscape 8.1.3 (display like Firefox) = no banding
Netscape 8.1.3 (display like IE) = no banding
Opera 9.21.8776 = no banding
Obviously the problems doesn't lie with the source mov, rather the bug is within the script by Pleinpot.
Check if it is linked with this:

Essentially, what it comes down to.
Buy the thingy now.
Because, all panos you do now, you're gonna end up converting and embellishing with Flash Panoramas later anyways.
Why lose time?
Am I right or am I left?

Big update.
It's still one player.
But strike everything else. Taking it all back.
flashpanoramas.com/blog/2007/10/01/flash-panorama...
That's that.
Its weaknesses has become its greatest strengths.
Quality is great now, up there with Quicktime, the immence P O W E R of the hotspots plugin (if you didn't look behind that simple term "hotspots plugin" you've NO idea... just like I didn't have a clue... it's insane and beautiful).
And the smart developer I was talking about earlier is the guy that's single-handedly revolutionising VR viewing and the future of it, that Chumakov fellow, Denis The Flash VR Menace, they call him.
Just love the idea of working with panos inside pano2qtvr again, and feeding them to the software that's installed on over 99% computers worldwide.
Who would have ever think it would happen this fast. What's in store one year from now? If someone had told you last year, this time, that you're gonna be able to take your .mov files and present them to people via flash, you'd think they are silly. It's going fast, but not that fast, I'd probably say.
Some HUGE things happening right now. Honestly hope nothing happens to the guy behind the future photo business revolution.
He should bloody be on the cover of TIMES or something, I tell you this. Perhaps, he will.
There's nothing holding back the big 360° explosion now. Am I naive to think this?
Quicktimes 50-60 % and need for installation were a big turn off for lots of people that were thinking of going for 360 photo.
There should be some kind of global awareness campaign informing all the involved parties that Quicktime 20 MB installation download problem is completely gone now, the quality and functionallity are still superior, not to even go on talking about what can be done with that simply named "hotspots plugin" inside Flash Panoramas package.
We're sitting at devilishly important crossroads right now. Hope we're gonna (unlike Apple) play our cards well. Including Denis The Flash VR Menace.

Aris_2007 said: Dalileis you are right.
I've seen on Flashpanoramas.com the Flash Panorama Player v2.0 and it's great, almost like DevalVR on quality and a lot of useful features.
Some documentation(links) about java, java player for panoramas, how to implement on a website... ?
Thanks in advance, Aris
Sure:

Immervision support leaves a lot to be desired, but you can find almost all the answers that are not covered in the documentation in the excellent Immervision forums instead, lots of helpfull members.

I guess what all of us are waiting for is DevalVR quality in a FlashVR format.
Can't you people collaborate or something? Fiero, Thomas, Denis, Aldo...
Joking. I know it's not quite that simple.
Previous post: Java2VR is of course wrong. Pano2VR probably sounds better.
