I think that you can unwarp the 0-360 donuts in Photoshop- just use the polar to rectangular coordinates filter. After that you can save at any quality you want.

www.flamingpear.com/flexify.html

Flexify is a very cool PS Plugin. It offers many options of different projections and a great preview.

Looks to me like a shift in the pitch of the camera- here on earth we call it "kicking the tripod"

Its hard to tell from the small image, but it looks as if the foreground is aligned and the distant background is misaligned. That would mean the camera did move off the nodal point.

To fix the picture, I would stitch one for the foreground, one for the background, layer them and blend between the two layers.

This may not be accurate for scientific measurement, but part of NASA's mission is to educate and inspire.

The author, Eric Rougier ( I think; sorry if I spelled it wrong) is active on the QTVR list.

The cityscape is shot from the top of the Eiffel tower; the top of the tower and the balloon are made in a 3D rendering program.

Adding Javascript to PTViewer 2.5

Ken: The method I use is not Javascript communication between the browser and applet. The buttons and their behaviors are handled within the applet and defined by parameters in the surronding HTML.

The syntax PTViewer uses is javascript, (I think) But this is much easier than linking PTViewer to Javascript outside PTViewer that communicates with the browser, reads cookies, etc.

Craig:

You can do this! It does not really need java programming- the capability is built in.

First, you define Pano0, Pano1, etc...

Then you define a button, then when the button is clicked the code is u'ptviewer:newPanoFromList (1)

I have done this with Flash also; the playback is poor on Windows machines.

You can add transparent graphics the same way you did Flash objects; to make actual sprites you need Livestage Pro. I downloaded the trial version- it is extremely complex.

You can also do this with PTViewer. The trick is to have the button that the user presses to load the new pano inside the applet; then the applet loads a new pano using the newPanofromList command.

Here's a good book to look at: seeingmaps.com/

I met Denis Wood, one of the authors at a used book store I shot a pano of. When he saw the equirectangular mapping of the space he was in, it freaked his freak, because he is intimately familiar with the map projection, but never considered being inside it.

Anyway, Mr. Wood isn't online, but I imagine his co-author is.
Another good source would be some of hte open- source developers at the PanoTools Yahoo group.

Are you using the newer versions of the PanoTools software from Kekus Digital? They offer Mac OSX versions of both the plugins and a freestanding GUI for PanoTools

www.kekus.com/index.html

I'm not sure many people are still using the old version of the plugins on the Mac OS9 platform- I certainly never had any luck with them.

There are more PanoTools users at the PanoTools Yahoo group.

I like it.

Using only QuickTime pro, it is possible to embed the SWF file navigation within the QTVR.

Not that I am suggesting that- just offering the possibility.

copying and pasting windows?

Open both windows. select the move tool (V). Drag from one window to the other, while holding down the shift key. By using shift, the two images will be pin-registered (assuming they are the exact same size and were shot without kicking the tripod in between.)

To check for perfect alignment, set the blending mode of the top layer to Difference, hold down the command key (not sure which key on a PC) and nudge it around- misalignment becomes obvious.

It doesn't really matter which layer is on top, you will have an easier time if you use a layer mask rather than erasing as you can go back and paint the ayer back in if you erase too much.

Linking panoramas together...

Oh, QuickTime. When I asked "QuickTime or Java, I meant a Java viewer like PTViewer...

Anyway, quicktime is pretty easy if you have Flash or a way to make Flash buttons. The only software necessary is QuickTime player Pro ($30)

1. The flash buttons should be linked to HTML pages that contain the QTVR movies.

2. Open the Flash button in QuickTime player pro and extract the flash Track

3. Open the QTVR and under "properties" change the controller to "movie controller"

4. Add scaled to put teh flash button in. Chance teh video mode to make a transparent background if necessary.

5. Change he movie controller back to QTVR movie controller.

The good news for Java panos: its free. The bad news: hand coding.

You can either define a static hotspot (button floating over the window) or a hotspot that travels with the image.

The code is reasonably simple, although EasyPano makes a PTviewer Scripter that should make it easier still...

Here are some that I made; the syntax for making the zoom buttons is identical to what you would use for linking panos:

Here is the definitive source on PTViewer scripting:
