I'll second that choice of equipment as it's what I use too.

You may have shot the panorama level but the optimizers can sometimes introduce a bit of tilt while trying to get the best positions for each of your photos. The easiest way to correct this sort of thing is back in PTGui allocate a few horizontal and vertical control points and then re-optimize. These will then be taken into account and hopefully your panorama will then appear level again.

I shoot on a Nikon D300 with vertical grip on a Nodal Ninja 5 without any problem. With a bit of a tweak I've even managed to squeeze in a Manfrotto quick release head so I can drop the camera onto my tripod without swapping anything over.

Gascar,
The arms on a Nodal Ninja are marked like a ruler and come with stop markers that you can set. It's then just a process of screwing the arms together and sliding things upto the stop markers (this is how my Nodal Ninja 5 works and I assume the newer model must have something similar). For fine movement's of half a mm you can slackened things off a bit and give things a nudge.

Hi Gascar,
I use PTGui to stitch all my panoramas and I know it is more than happy to work with rectilinear images, both as source images and final output. There is a PTGui trial version you can download from their site, so give it a go.
As for pano heads from what you have said you need something flexible. With these different lens / camera combinations you need something you can change. I shoot with a Nodal Ninja 5, adjustable for different setups, this exact model has been discontinued, but has been replaced with a newer model. Again have a look at their website or Red Door VR who I bought mine through here in the UK.
Hope this helps,
Bob Bilsland.

My bad, I should have noticed that in your screen shot of the panorama editor there was yellow lines. These are crop lines and restrict the size of what is output. If you hover over each of these lines your cursor should change and you will be able to drag them off the top and bottom of the window. After this go back to the panorama settings tab and make sure the output is now correctly set at 360 x 180 and then finally goto the create panorama tab and make sure the output size is set correctly too. Hopefully this should now do the trick.
The crop lines were introduced if you wanted to unevenly crop a panorama because amending the width / height of a panorama is equally splits it above and below the center lines.

Yes as Smooth says you are creating a partial panorama. The problem is occuring because of your choice of output format, the type of QTVR PTGui outputs expects a full spherical panorama. Now even if you have not shot enough photos to cover this your panorama must still represent a full spherical panorama with your photos in the middle of it. But don't worry PTGui will do all this for you automatically. In the "Panorama Settings" tab just make sure the format is equirectangular and it covers the full 360 by 180 degrees. You can skip this next step if you want but if you now in the "Create Panorama" tab you choose the output format of jpeg the panorama that is create should have your photos (your horizon should be exactly in the middle) with padding above and below. Finally in the "Create Panorama" tab this time choose the output format of QTVR and then click the settings button to the right. In the window that appears you should be able to set the vertical limits of what can be seen and so hiding the blank padded areas above and below your photos. Hopefully this should create a QTVR panorama with level horizon.

I'm wondering if this is a QTVR output issue, let's break things down a bit. Change your output to a equirectangular jpeg image. Is the horizon still in the centre of this image? With this image it won't bend up or down but just sit higher or lower than the centre line.

I've managed to talk to both the photographer who shot the St Paul's Cathedral panorama and the journalist who put the shots together. Both very friendly and willing to talk. I approached both of them with the question of "was the choice of the angle of 4 of the panoramas an artistic decision".
Well the photographer said that he was just shooting the shots that were requested and the journalist said that there was no artistic reason, he had just chosen them to be projected like that.
He did also say that the panoramic views were going to be re-launched in the new year and to watch this space.
Whatever people say about the quality of the panoramas (which I don't think are too bad, I've seen a lot worse) to get a more main stream media acceptance of the interactive format can't be a totally bad thing.
Robert.

I can only assume that it has been done for artistic reason as these places have wonderful ceilings. By placing it at an angle the auto rotate will show the ceilings as well as the floors as well as the ceilings as well as the floors as well as the ceilings.........
Excuse me for a minute I think I've spent too long spinning one of their panoramas, feeling dizzy......

Just for a bit of an alternative view I use Pano2VR for creating my .swf flash files but then I run them directly on the phone using SWF Player. Free tool from the marketplace, ad's on the menu pages but once the panorama is launched they disappear. Full screen panoramas straight away.

It would seem that this year must have been a good year for bluebells as I was tempted into going and shooting a panorama that I had shot quite a few times before just because the colours were looking so rich.
panoview.co.uk/gallery.html?pano=pano02i
The panoramas is of high enough resolution to go full screen, so give it a try. Where ever they are the carpets of blue always look so beautiful.

Stephen,
What is required of the finished panoramas? How big will they need to be displayed? Are they looking for full screen with the ability to zoom? Single shot solutions maybe easy to shoot with but might not provide the required resolution to allow this.
