Dylan, On my crt it looks very good. Probably close to actual lighting you saw. Maybe a little under exposed on bottom half only. But overall 9/10..

PTGui Crop feature working?
PTGui Crop feature working?

Hello all, I'm using Canon 5d, Sigma 8mm 3.5, NN3 and PTGui 8.0.2. I am working with full circular images and was wondering about the crop feature in PTGui.

First question: Does it actually do anything? When I select the crop (as tight as possible around the actual image) and click "Apply to all images" it doesn't seem to do anything.

Second question: Is cropping necessary at all? I seem to get almost the same results without it..

TIA for any insight into this feature you can provide.

Hmmm, Ok Santa, I'd like to have a stand alone program that would support RAW then export to .tif or .jpg...

Also be able to easily correct color, CA, sharpen, curves, layers, masks, WB and HDR. Of course it would also need to support everyone's favorite motto...

"If it's free it's for me".. I hope I'm not asking for too much Santa. laugh

Florence, I know one technique that has been mentioned, is to mount your camera/lens/panohead on a short pole and go through one of the front windows. By turning the pole and using a wireless remote for shutter, you would bring your nadir to the window making for easier patch. Have not tried it yet myself.

Nice panos Kirk, I'm from Malone, NY not too far from Plattsburg, and I remember when we took the ferry across Lake Champlain a couple of times to go up Mt Washington. It was great fun that I'll always remember. One time there was a van coming down ahead of us and their brakes were on fire! Smoke was billowing out the front end!

Yes, Aperture Priority is a no no... Manual only unless bracketing for HDR. Which I guess you were..... blush

my main goal is for the rare plant fanatics to be able to zoom in and see some of these plants which are very rare

Konakid, Zoomin is your friend since your panos are very sharp! You are however, allowing a bit too much zoom there. Tone that back some, allowing your users to zoom in only until the view starts to get a little blurry.

You are off to a good start (already surpassed my skills I think) and you are in the right place to get the feedback needed to step to the next level.

Nice work Konakid! It looks like a beautiful place. Always wanted to see Hawaii but will likely never see it in person. Your panos provide a good way to "see" without actually being there.. Also, I like what you have done with your hotspots! very nice...

The only constructive criticism I can provide would be that there is quite a bit of CA there. And i'm guessing you did some color corrections but the greens seem a little too green/vibrant?

All in all though, I don't believe I could have done any better. The sound is super! If you are just starting, you are doing great!

If it was me, I'd go with the Canon in a heartbeat. It's about $300USD cheaper than the Sony at B&H Photo $2699-$2999 but just for the wide choice of glass offered by Canon would be the clincher for me.. If you are going to invest that much in a camera you surely don't want to skimp on glass!

Roy, You can use two free programs to get started, the first is for building web sites and the second for uploading your files to the server:

www.download.com/HTML-Kit/3000-2048_4-10035302.ht...

www.download.com/FileZilla/3000-2160_4-10308966.h...

Then use Google to learn how to use HTML... All at no cost to you. (Of course you will need to pay for the server unless you can use your IT skills and set one up yourself)..

After updating FF to v3.03 from 2.0.0.17, I been having problems with the top and bottom menus going black. I'm using detectvr.js but don't think that has anything to do with it. Also using WinXP Pro SP2. See this thread at the DevalVR forums:

www.devalvr.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=712

Has anyone else experienced this? I have already posted in the above forum..

Berry, I can't comment on the 190DB since I never owned one. I have the Manfrotto 055XPROB and NN3 MKII for my Canon 5D and Sigma 8mm 3.5 and am very happy with all. If I wanted to use the 70-200 lens, I would probably buy the NN5 to handle it.

Looking at the settings I can see that a lot aren't even close and really should be removed from the list. It's not really my job to tell NN what to do but I can see the settings they've published causing more trouble than they’re worth.

It might be a good idea to add a column indicating which settings are customer supplied and which ones have been verified by NN.

Matt

When I was looking for a pano head, and being quite the "noob", This forum was where I gathered information from.

When several folks recommended the NN3, I went to their website and discovered all the camera/lens/rail settings. This ended up being the deciding factor for me as I was not sure if I would be able to find the NPP easily. Could not find any other manufacturer that provided these settings so I bought the NN3 MKII.

While the settings supplied were not perfect, they did give me a good starting point and proved that Fanotec was trying to HELP people.
