Dear James, I feel as if I can call you by your Christian name because I feel I know you. Whenever I logon to panoguide, virtually every day, I am always gobsmacked by the beauty of the header pano, often taken by you. How on earth do you do it, how on earth do you have the time and the amount of travel involvedf? Never mind the technicalities of it, I don't study the panos looking for paralex etc (I don't suppose I'd know it if I saw it, only in extreme cases) I just look at the end result. Ditto to many other contributors, but you, Jsmes, seem to appear the most often. By the time i've finished looking, its time to go to bed!!!! Mike

Hello Tom, I've just checked on the forum and read your reply. I've been up for around 18 hours with work (not panos!!!) and its now 01.00 in the middle of the night---so I am off to bed---wacked. But I cannot wait to put your recommendations into practice. If I can produceanything half as good as what I've just seen in ispace-tours.com/spec-ispace/ I will be VERY happy. I'll let you know how I go on in a few days. Mike

Thanks Gus. You've given me a lot to think about. Firstly, you say turn the ring to "lock." I don't know where I read it recently, but someone or some firm said the opposite, turn it to unlock. I spent a whole day experimenting with different positions of the rings, then compared the results. I came to the conclusion that "unlock" produced the best results. Please don't think I am argueing against your advice, far from it. I also tried f/8 and, again, decided 5,6 was better!!! Perhaps some other factor was influencing my results. As to the panobracket, I uise a Panosaurus, and it doesent have any settings at all. I'm not at all sure what the upper and lower arms are, I don't think its got them. Now I'm off to look at the tutorial you mention. Please don't think I am ungrateful and argumentative===I appreciate you have spent time on trying to help me. Mike

Thanks Dorin for your quick reply. Your last sentence---"Hope this helps." Yes it does in the sense that I now know where I am, but No it doesent in the sense that I now know even the number of shots affects it. I never, evr dreamed anything like that, so its back to the drawing board. Mike

I made a good resolution today. I would settle once and for all the nodal points on my cameras. So I went to work, I know the nodal point is where the light gets down to infinity like an hourglass centre. But to my question. I have heard that the zoom on certain lenses alters the nodal point. Is this true? I cannot see how it affects something inside the camera. I am particulary concerned because I have a fisheye, a Peleng 3.5/8a. and some of my results using this lens are poor to say the least. Is it anything to do with the fact that my main camera, a canon 300D, I set up the nodal point using a kit lens 18-55. Ive tried testing the fisheye for nodal point tests, but I.m not sure Mike Owen

Only last month there was a post praising Panosaurus on their after sales support. I can add to this. I bought a panosaurus about eignt or nine monts ago. I've now mislaid the base plate to the camera (put away safely---so safe I cannot find it). I enquired of Greg@Gregwired would it be very expensive to ship such a small item from America to the U.K. Came the reply, "give me your address, another base plate will be on its way, ----NO CHARGE." I cannot believe this, who said that business was all about money grubbing con men. Not in the Pano world. Mike Owen

Thanks to everyone for your help. I've learnt more about the Peleng lens in the last 24 hours than in the previous six months, mainly through following links from one thread to another. One very simple question however. Infinity. I have been told by several to set the third ring to infinity. But---what is the sign? Is it the two small circles joined together? This seems to be giving me good results. Mike

I bought the abovementioned lens about six months ago. Immediately afterwards I bought a 360% optic and I have spent the last six months getting the hang of that, so my Peleng has been virtually unused. Now I'm spending time on my fisheye. My problem--I hav'ent got a manual, or, at least, not one that anyone outside deepest Russia could understand. I've tried getting some sort of translation, but no luck. Does anyone know where I could get an english manual from or alternatively does anyone know the basic information on using the three adjustment rings, the top one appeared to move in steps, the second marked unlock and lock, that should be simple but it is'ent, and the third rotates nice and smoothly. I have tried taking a few shots in different positions, but I still cannot make out what is going on. Mike Owen sad

Now that the dust has died down a bit on this subject, I feel I must point out to Matt Rogers of 360 precision that E bay is a form of auction. All auctions start at a low price, the auctioneer says "anyone bid five pounds", and the hands go up for an item that everyone knows will end up around hundred pounds. Thats how it works---its not greed at all, we've all done it (well perhaps Matt you hav'ent) , we dont expect to get the item, but if we do, we dont feel any guilt about taking it. Mike Owen

I thought out of courtesy to the several pano forum members who have offered advice, and to 0-360 support if they read this. I have purchased a Sigma 170-70mm F2.8-4.5 DC Macro Canon SLR lens. At the least this should make focusing easier, and I am hopeful it will solve the whole problem. Now I just cannot wait to get my hands on it and try it out. Thanks again everybody Mike
