Serious distortion issues with immervision pure player for flash
Serious distortion issues with immervision pure player for flash

Hey people,

I've been on to immervision about this and they're taking it quite seriously actually and are going to try and release a new fix to the problem, but just in case anyone knows a solution...here's my problem:

Firstly, here's my set up though:

windows xp, sp2, canon 350d, realviz unlimited, immervision puretools (with filemaker. lensflae creater, etc.)

So, the issue:

When I produce .ivp panorama files using either realviz, or puretools 'filemaker', when I open them up in in flash player in an html page I'm met with oscillating horizontal lines (distortion), and grey lines at the borders of the cube (especially in skies or areas with little pattern diferentiation). As I said, immervision recognize this as a serious issue and are trying to find a fix, but just in case anyone here has any advice or has resolved this issue, please let me know.

Oh yeh, also worth noting, that I went through the process of stitching directly to cubical image without compression and likewise when I created the .ivp file in 'filemaker' (in puretools), but I still got the same distortion, albeit slightly reduced. Sldo that, but in Java player the issue of the lines at the cube borders does not occur, but there is still a bit of distortion along horizontal lines. the problem is though, that I'm creating a flash based website, so I need to use the fashplayer.

Hi,

I'm going to be publishing pano's on a flash website soon, and I'm wiondering what's the best way to go about it. I use ptgui to stitch and currently use pano2qtvr to output. Should I use immervisions puretools, or pano2qtvr pro plus flashpack to output in flash? Any opinions which way is the better way to go? Sorry, I also had a look at www.flashpanoramas.com, but it did'nt seem very smooth.

Cheers, Alex.

Hey, i recently purchased the NN3 for my canon 350D/ sigma 8mm f3.5 combo. And man have I been having issues trying to stitch the 6 images in realviz. I thought that maybe the head was faulty and that i was'nt locating the entrance pupil correctly. Not the case at all. I downloaded trial of ptgui, and what do you know? perfect stitch. So has anyone else had problems with realviz in this way? What's strange aswell, is that even though i have ticked the box in properties for the program to auto-read EXIF data, it never recognizes it. strange. So I need to calibrtae the images myself. I've gone by the help contents as to how to do this, but still not getting the results! Anyone use this software with circular fisheye images tha may be able to help?

Cheers, Alex.

Hey John. Yeh, I see waht you mean, but in this case, without being able to see this spot from through the viewfinder, how can it help me locate the correct positionm for the head. At 92mm i'm very close, but can it be the case, that even at 91.5, or 92.5mm there is a LOT of difference in the outcome as regarsd parrallax? I still amn't able to find the 'right' position. There's a lot of parralax.

Right okay,

I've tried absolutely every possible setting (near 92mm where it's getting there), even up to 91.25/91.5/91.75, 92.25/92.5/92.75mm. still no joy, so I'm putting this down to a manufacturing fault. must be, if none of these settings work.

Right, i seem to be getting closer each time. i'm now shooting 5 around instead of 4 which seems to have helped.

As regards seeing the pupil, do you mean the reflection caused by say the light bulb i'm looking at?

to add...

i'm taking 4 shots around, which I imagine should be enough. there's plenty of overlap. Should I maybe take 5/6? Would this help?

John, this 'bright spot' you talk of. I've pressed the apperture check button in at f16, but there is no bright spot. I'm looking at a light bulb, but can't see any spot. Canon 350D.

hey dorin.

yes, there's no doubt that it's parrallax. previously i was using a 'panosaurus' head and had no problems (with my sigma 18-125mm, which also didi'nt work with the NN3).

Hey people,

Okay here's my problem:

Cannot locate correct positioning for the following set up:

Canon 350D/NN3/Sigma 8mm f3.5

I have tried EVERY method i could come cross to locate the correct position on the horizontal (or upper), arm. NO JOY!

I then opted for the unquestionable method, and took around 10 pano's from 88mm to 95mm (anyting in either direction beyond was WAY off), but to no further avail- still getting parrallax. So, I guess that's it really, nothing is working. Oh yeh, sorry, the bottom rail I have set at 42mm, which as far as I can tell (and photoshop), is perfect. Tripod was perfectly level to, not that this should make a difference really, since i'm using realviz unlimited (with settings for circular fisheye, and perfectly calibrated, although for some reason it does'nt recognize my EXIF data, which i have ticked to do automatically under properties, I have to set that each time I load the images)

So am i missing something here, or what? Manufacturing error in the head?

Help, help, help!!!

a very concerned Alex...

Hey, my NN3 (nodal ninja 3), arrived today, and after much fidling around I established the correct position for entrance pupil location at (canon350D, sigma 18-125mm DG):

Vertical Arm - 40mm
Horizontal Arm - 87mm

I'm still to really fully test it, but I tried one or two pano's indoors with tiles etc. (lot's of lines), and so far so good. If I'm off, I'll repost to let you know. This is just on the off-chance that someone else might have this lens/head combination (doubtfull). Later and happy snapping,

Alex

Hey guys, thanks very much. Looks like I'll be going for the sigma 8mm circular fisheye in the end so, requiring only up to 7 shots. it's atimes like these I gaze even more longingly at the canon 5d. Wit that I could use the 15mm fullframe and have a lens that I could use for something more than just pano's. But hey, it'll be worth it!,

Thanks for the advice!
