This is the one from the top of Lafayette. I've been too lazy to patch in top & bottom, but Lafayette is one of my favorite mountains, summer or winter. I finished my 4'000 footers on top of Lincoln at age twelve many years ago.

I love coming across stone walls in the woods. They probably were fields many years ago, and the stories they could tell would be great. In a similar vein it is fun coming across abandoned villages, of which there are many, with their lost histories.

John:
I have been reading replies to this thread and others relating to both the Tokina 10-17 FE and 11-16 WA. I had seen the link Andrew pointed out on Tokina's website showing the respective images of 10mm FE vs. WA lenses. Without actually buying the lens is it possible to determine how many shots would be needed to do a 360? Is it realistic to think the 11-16 could replace the 10.5 without adding much more work to the stitching process? I like the idea of having just the one lens because the 10.5 is such a specialty lens.
Thanks,

Anyone out there have spherical panos done with the Tokina 11-16 lens? I would love to see some, as it would be a more useful lens than my Nikon 10.5 if the quality is equal. I am impressed with the images I have seen from this lens.
Thanks

Thanks! Great selection, which also shows the potential of the lens.

Anyone out there with experience with this lens? I am tempted to buy it because it would fit the gap between my 10.5 and 18-200. I have read lots of things both good and bad; Ken Rockwell praises the sharpness while others note a lack of quality consistency. A competitor seems to be the Sigma 12-24.

AVG gave me a message about detecting a Trojan horse in PTGui uninstall.exe. Anyone else getting this? As far as I know the uninstall.exe has been there as long as the PTGui file and has not morphed into a Trojan horse.

Some here prefer pan tilt heads, personally I prefer a ball head because it is easier for me to get the shot I want. It is also easy to use with a pano head such as the NN3; leveling is fast with no need for another 1/2lb chunk of metal! It is worth investigating quick release plates for the various setups. They make using a tripod and setting up easier and you may be more likely to use your tripod. I am happy with my Induro carbon 410. Yow will need a NN5 for the battery pack setup I think.

John:

The button I am interested in creating is the one that minimizes the controller. Are you creating the controller in Pano2VR? I can create the button, but is there an action that goes along with it to minimize the controller?

Nice work. I would be more worried about the swans hurting me!
Both you and John Houghton use a controller that can be minimized. Did you create it or is it available? I don't have the time to make my own right now.
Thanks,
Tim

I had a similar problem which I fixed with advice from the Pano2VR Forum. It has to do with your flash settings if you are using Flash output. This is the relevant link:

I finally figured out that the .bat file is the one to open and not the jar file. I guess the .bat file is the jar file tweaked to accept large equis.

Thanks.

In my effort to thoroughly confuse myself I want to try PTeditor and compare it to Rune Spaans' converter. I created the pted.bat file per directions ( java -jar -Xmx450m pteditor.jar ) and placed it in the Panorama tools file where the PTEditr.jar is located. Pteditor opens, but when I try opening one of my equirectangular images nothing happens. Any tips?

John:
Since you seem to have experience with many techniques, is there much difference between Rune Spaaans converter and PTEditor? I do know that I get better results by patching nadir before putting the equi into Pano2QTVR than by extracting and editing a cube face afterwords.
I went about getting the nadir patch slightly differently, with hopefully the same result. I added the nadir shot into my PTGui project and used the auto align, which brought it into pretty good alignment. After optimizing and removing bad control points I output only the nadir. After converting the equi ( sans nadir ) and the nadir the nadir aligned nicely with only a little warping.

I use Rune Spaans converter to patch in the nadir. I need to know what the proper settings are for using PTRemap to convert the patch so it will closely match up with the extracted nadir. It is easier to use the warp tool in Photoshop if the images are as close as possible.
