Thank you both.

No tent (I keep forgetting I have one!).

I used two strobes with Amvona reverse shoot through umbrellas and a white background.

Matt,

1. Doh! I can't believe I mounted that upside down.
2. Not sure why the washers should pose a problem. They are dense plastic (no mar) and have the exact shape profile of the head on the included screws.
3. I purposely omitted the loaner info as I didn't want to presume you wanted that publicized. I apologize. I am indeed grateful.

Finally, I've sent a couple emails with no answer. Maybe I have the wrong address? I just sent another.

I'm using the excellent 360Precision Adjuste. My only caveat with this head is that the base and side arm assemblies require an allen wrench to assemble/disassemble. This is fine but could be tool free which makes carry about much easier. I doubt I;m the first to do this but I'm posting some pics just in case.

After figuring out that the included screws were metric M6 I sourced a couple thumb screws with my requirements being size, knurled and include a shoulder. This wasn;t all that easy but I eventually found these:

Obviously as the mounting holes are beveled I needed to address that. I initially tried sourcing some beveled washers, which proved to be impossible (or nearly so). I then moved onto plastic plumbing washers which I've had plenty of experience with over the years and know to come in all sorts of sizes with bevels being quite common. The resulting washer is a number 00 stem repair washer, ½" OD. I partially threaded the washers onto a screw and took them to the belt sander to remove the excess to make them flush. Though the inner hole diameter was smaller than the thumb screw shaft I decided not to bore them out but instead to thread them on as is for a more snug fit.

The results are exactly what I wanted. Tool free, and it looks like it was made for it.

A couple months ago I picked up the sigma 10-20mm. I bought it for two reasons, straight wide angle use and panos. Now I'm wondering if it was the right choice.

It turns out I still have to do two sets of shots with it's FOV I'm really no better off than I would have been using my 18-70 which I'm pretty sure could have done sphericals in two passes also (albeit with more shots 10 vs 6).

Nikon 18-70 @18 - 10 shots x2
Sigma 10-20 @10 - 6 shots x2
Nikon 10.5 - 4 shots x1

I love the 10mm on the Sigma but it's not gained me much over the 18-70. If I had gone with the 10.5 I'd at least have a clear benefit for sphericals (would it do flat panos as well?).

Just some thoughts, probably been rehashed a million times.

Thanks everybody! Well obviously it can be done, nice examples. Thank you. I'll go over the suggestions.

I guess I'm dumber than I thought, I assumed I was shooting at 30 deg. detents, now I'm thinking the 360 Adjuste isn't set for 30 degrees. I'll have to check.

Sure makes me wonder if I should have opted for the Nikon 10.5 instead. My only concern is wondering if it would do straight panos without distortion or would I have to jump through hoops there also?

Well I can't detail the steps of the various stitchers as I was trying to just let them do all the work. But everything else:

D70
Sigma 10-20 @10
360 Adjuste
6 shots at +30°
6 shots at -30°
1 zenith
I skipped the nadir thinking I'd put a logo there (hah, I didn't even get that far)

Processed all the NEFs to 1500 pixels tall plus adjustments in Nikon Capture. Saved everything as high quality jpegs then proceeded to the various stitching programs. I'm guessing one of my problems is that I assume these programs make 360s straight from the original images. Now I'm thinking that straight stitching is the first step. Not sure.

OK, I'm ready for being put in my place as I know I'll have it coming!

I've now downloaded trial versions of:

PTGui: Horrible experience, didn't even stitch.
AutoPano Pro: Stitched no problem but just couldn't figure out how to get a QTVR out of it.
Sticher Pro: Did the QTVR just fine with no help from me but the interface is cheesy to say the least.
Hugin: Ugh, worse than PTGui.

I had horrible to average results from them all. I'm used to using Panorama Factory for flat panos and it's works so well I'm just not prepared for the difficulty/involvement level of these programs.

I guess I'm missing something in the basics here. I tired looking over the help FAQ and forums at APP to no avail. I guess I need an idiots step-by-step.

Well I'm pretty disappointed. I picked up the 10-20 (it was a gift actually) with panos in mind. I though it would have enough FOV to make it once around.

Maybe I should have opted for the Nikkor 10.5?

How many images will I need with the Sigma @10mm?

How many stops for bracketing HDR shots?

OK, so I'm going on a trip and am not prepared at all but would very much like to return with shots for spherical panos.

I have little idea of what I need. I know what I have though so I'd like some advice on how to shoot so my return work will turn out nicely. I have:

- 360Pricision Adjust at my disposal
- D70
- Sigma 10-20
- Panorama Factory 4.2

I know nothing about the various types of sphericals or what format is best to output to.

I know this is all stuff that is probably covered umpteen times in the forum but I'm pressed for time.

Cheers.

I'm not versed well enough in the NN stuff. Is this the newest version? If not, what's the reason for it being the same price as a new one. I realize I'm probably missing something.

If you PP before noon I can ship today.

Cheers. Let me know if you want it disassembled, personally I don't mind shipping it assembled and it will save you a pain. Doesn't matter though.
