In a series of tests I performed with my Sigma 8mm 3.5, I found the sharpest focus on my lens was at the 1 meter mark. This mark made a noticeable difference in sharpness- and is more even more critical in finding sharp focus on my lens than which aperature I am using.

Thanks so much for your tests.
I also have the Sigma 8mm 3.5, and have run some tests this morning. My lens is sharpest dead on at the 1m focus mark- getting softer towards 0.5 and again towards the infinity mark. I was amazed that adjusting these small focusing increments (from .5 to infinity) made MORE difference in the image sharpness than the fstop! At the 1m mark, I now have a sharp lens

Have a friend with this combo. I need to know how many shots around (or rows) it would take for a 180x360 pano... I don't believe the 20D is full frame.
Thanks,

Wow- I'm humbled getting advice from 2 of the 'Pano Gods,' Thanks guys! For some reason PTGUi was giving me a final output that was not 2:1, I may have had the slider down in the editor (probably pilot error). Anyway, I think it turned out great - save a few messy photoshop touchups.

6 around...
I use a combination of noise ninja- a photoshop plugin from PictureCode and the photoshop smart sharpen filter.
I use mostly autofocus- doesn't matter too much with this lens. I can't remember the exposure info- I usually shoot around f4, but optimum I believe is f8.

Using PTGui w/10.5, auto EXIF data, 6 shot around. Most of the pano looks fine, even in photoshop. but when brought into CubicConverter, the roof above the Wedding party is warped.

Any clues?

Mike,
Have you ever thought of using a bare bulb flash to get full coverage?

We are using a Nikon D50 with a 10.5mm fisheye (I will be also getting the Sigma 8mm). We are now using an off-brand flash that just isn't giving enough power in large darkened rooms. What do you suggest as a replacement that would both give plenty of power and a reasonable recycle time and the wide angle coverage I need (for wedding reception panos). I am considering the Nikon SB-800 flash.
Thanks,
Mike

In an attempt to get PTGui to stitch images from my Sigma 8mm lens, I have downloaded several versions of panotools- including some older versions (2.2, 2.8), and none seems to work with PTGUi. I get "The PTGui stitcher does not support source images with field of view of 100 degrees or more..."
I have also tried to manually set several panotools versions in preferences under the panorama tools tab with no luck
Any clues would be appreciated.

I guess the question is not whether the image will be larger, but will it be sharper with the D80 over the D50 in a QTVR full frame panorama?
Thanks,
Mike
