Nodal Ninja advice
Posted: 24 Sep 2011 at 13:29 GMT
I need your advice on what Nodal Ninja to get for my D7000 with Samyang 8 and occasionally my 18-135 lens.

Up to now I've had good results with my custom head and Manfrotto 300N rotator. Problem is my rotator is starting to wear out, the stops are sloppy and the head actually rocks side to side.

Time I got a more professional rig.

Thanks,
Clay

If you can get hold of a factory irregular NN5 with the RD16 rotator I suggest you go for that.

NN4 Standard, R-D8 or R-D16 Rotator.

Thanks for the advice, my D7000 will probably only need the NN4. I'm finding that 5 shots around with my Samyang 8 is about right, but most rotators don't seem to have 5, unless you set it to 10 and use every other one.
Is there a 5 detent ring?

Try shooting:

4 around (90 deg apart) @ -15 deg tilt DOWN
2 up (180 deg apart) @ +60 deg tilt UP

I get great and consistent results with this configuration for an APS-C sensor camera like the D7000 and the Samyang 8mm.

Thanks, I'll try that. Up to now, I've been shooting 6 around at -15 (only because my Manfrotto doesn't do 5) plus Nadir and 1 Zenith at +70.
Your method sounds much faster.
