Just remember that if they make a 8mm for the sony NEX APS it will be a fullframe like the standard Samyang 8mm

I prefer fullframe over circular or even cropped circular because of edge softness.
But I'm confused, there already is an 8mm version for the Sony VG10 which is a video camera with an E-Mount. Yet Samyang says there will be yet another version for E-Mount.
I wonder if the version for the VG10 would work on a NEX3/5/7?
By the way, the reason I'm interested is that I just bought a NEX 5. It will take me a while to get all the pieces together to use it though.

DemonDuck,
The 7.5 is a micro 4/3 lens. It is a full frame lens on a 4/3 sensor. If you use it on an APS-C the hope is that the image will be the same as the Sigma 8mm. If so, this may be the final solution for a lightweight portable pano rig.
The micro 4/3 to NEX adapter is paper thin. I already have the adapter and am just waiting for the lens to ship.

Please ask your source at Samyang if the image will be a 180 diagonal fisheye image or a partial circular image.

I just checked a panorama made with the Samyang 7.5 on the Olympus Pen.
The FOV is almost exactly like my Panasonic 8mm. Panasonic 8mm is 98x132 Samyang 7.5 gives me 102x134 With circular crop at the corners I get 181 degrees and the diameter of this crop is just 21.5mm so it will not fill the full height of the Sony Nex which has standard APS size 23.4 x 15.6 mm sensor. I think it will be more like a shaved Tokina at 10mm on fullframe.
Like my Panasonic 8mm the Samyang has more flare than I am used to with Tokina 10-17 and Canon 15mm.
It may give some problems with a low sun directly in camera.

Just a little more information. Samyang is very helpful and they've answered all of my dumb questions. Good customer service.

Hello,
yes you can use VG10 lens with all Sony NEX cameras but in the future we will have a new fish-eye lens designed specialy for NEX cameras.

I thought that your 8mm fisheye for the Sony VG10 was also for NEX.
Can that lens be used for NEX-3,5,7 etc? Do you mean that there will be different version of your 8mm fisheye for the NEX?

Either the guy taking the pictures used different cameras or his camera lost a pixel during the shoot. Look in the lower left hand corner.
The pictures do look promising.

I emailed the guy who did those shots for samyang. Here is his reply:
"Helloo Thomas,
I did 6 shots arround and two +45 from one side 0 and another 180. I had this lens hust for two hours. For test only I've done one from 4 shots and ptgui stich it well. I use Nodal Ninja 3 mk1 but without T-adaptar so I have problem with Zenit shooting and keep nodal point i correct place. So I decide to do this 2 shots +45 and when I stiched in Ptgui I marked View point correction in OPTIMIZER for zenith shoots.
Check this jpgs:
www....
www.... - with strong sun.
I think that this new samyang is really good proposition to people travelling a lot and treating photography like hobby. I use Fuji s5 pro with sigma 8mm - this give me 8600x4300 panos and I have to close lens to have sharp enough corners. Olympus with samyang in Poland cost obout half new sigma 8mm! and gives 10000x5000 panos with sharp corrners."
I downloaded one of his samples, which is of the church, he did 6 around at level, then 2 at +45, and one hand held nadir shot. It sounds like he did the 2 at +45 also hand held, is that right?
I'm not sure what he means with the 4 shots. I'll ask him if he would like to share the files with the forum. The images look really good, at least to me, compared to the FC-E8.

I have also got them directly from him. Comparing them with my Panasonic 8mm shows that it is almost exactly like the panasonic. Same FOV around 102x134 circle 181. Same very good sharpness at F4 -8. I do not know if the JPG has been adjusted for CA but the Panasonic has the lowest CA I ever seen on a fisheye. Diffraction starts already from F11 on the Panasonic so forget about using F16 and 22.
Unfortunately both has big problems with Flare which increases when you have the sun placed within a small distance from the centre as you will have it when you shoot low sun panos. You need to shoot extra images and use masks to control this.
You can easy shoot 4 around at -15 + 1 zenith on a 3/4 if you use panohead/tripod.
