When I release a shutter and hold a lens at the lens mount I feel the aperture ring move/shake slightly. It is on D300. Is this normal?

Hi Adamo,
I just got the same lens for my Sony A100. Mine doesn't move or shake in the same way you describe. Did it come from Europe?

If the Samyang 8mm is controllable from a D300 (auto focos, auto aperture) make sure the camera is switched to full manual. If not the movement you feel when you release the shutter could be the focus or aperture motors engaging.
Mark
PS With a Canon 40D and Sigma 8mm, like mine, what you describe might well be expected if Auto Mode isn't deselected.

Mark, There are no electrical connections to the Samyang lens when used with any camera. It's fully manual. There may be vibration from mirror slap, for which the solution is to take shots with mirror up lock or use exposure delay, or maybe liveview mode. I'm not too familiar with the Nikon features.

John, given there are no electrical connections between Nikon D300 and Samyang 8mm as you point out, is there still the possibility that levers in the lens mount intended for automatic control of Nikor lenses touch the back of the Samyang and jolt it, so to speak, on shutter release? I think some input from Nikon users is needed. Better still D300/Samyang users if any exist. In anycase the camera should be set to manual when a fully manual lens is attached, but is it? As to mirror slap that seems a bit unlikely as it would apply to all lenses and be more pronounced with longer focus lenses, moreover setting the camera to liveview removes some of its functionality for if similar to liveview on Canon cameras the through lens viewfinder will no longer work. Maybe Adamo can get back to us and confirm wether the camera was in manual mode or no. Mark
