Just found panoramic footage of the Sony bloggie on youtube:

Sony bloggie MHS PM5K 360 video test shoot (before converting):
www.youtube.com/watch?v=J9yJkRYeCGQ

Sony bloggie MHS-PM5K 360 video (after converting)
www.youtube.com/watch?v=LjVodf2Bnwg

I downloaded the converted file as "True High Def 720p", and measured width x hight of the actual image as 1062x154 pixel.

Then I calculated a vertical field of view (vfov) of 52.2 degrees.

I really like that rubber horizon --- NOT!

Good way to get motion sickness while sitting absolutely still in front of your computer.

O great, this brings back memories. It's the same rubber horizon I had on the Eye Candy last year (tinyurl.com/ye3v6cb).

Pierre,

the "rubber horizon" always happen when the camera swings a bit. Pretty hard to hold a camera still when on ski.

Check out my timelapse video:
www.diy-streetview.org/data/test_10fps.avi

No rubber horizon. I put the camera on my cars rooftop. No swinging at all.

Did you use a tripod?

It is a different horizon.

I used a home made pole, which was not steady enough, as you can see.

Haha, Pierre,

It's not the pole but you that is unsteady laugh it moves with your breathing wink (although the pole would tip over without you being there)

So, did anyone buy one of these toys? If so, your thoughts/results.

I purchased one and I can't say the 360 aspect is even usable. Maybe I need to process things differently.

I expected "usable" small window results even if the window was limited to 320x240 (1/4 VGA). Can't say that is the case from my limited tests.

Pretty woeful results at this stage.
Somebody prove me wrong, Please!

Roger Berry bought one, and dissected it.

G'day Trausti,

Thanks for the link. smile

Unfortunately the quality whilst improved and displays sort of OK in donut form, once converted (unwrapped) the quality is appalling in a VR viewer. cry

So, this points to the software doing the conversion and re-rendering.

Hopefully somebody has or knows of better software to do this conversion. Viewing video in donut shaped display holds absolutely no interest for me.

I hate it when they don't tell you the prices up front and ask you to ask them for the price.

I guess if I have to ask -- I can't afford it....
