I note it has a video head that rotates - vertically - 270 degrees, but I see nothing relating to 360 degree video.

The add-on lense needed to shoot the panoramic video, search on youtube to see some previews where the video part is discussed as well.

Here a screenshot showing the live feed left and the panoramic view right (below the panoview you see the fullview with a rectangle overlay for feedback-navigation.

Surely no match to the LadyBug or Dodeca in quality or angular coverage but in price ($199) and ease-of-use an absolute winner!

Its not surprising that Sony is introducing a virtual video camera.

They bought most of iPIX's patents from the bankruptcy, inlcuding the ones involving 360° video.

Sony has been making moves toward the Security Camera business and iPIX's security cameras built around fisheye lenses that pan, tilt & zoom digitally with software have distinct advantages over cameras that mechanically pan, tilt & zoom.

The 360 version of Bloggie is only $189, cheap enough that I'm sure some small percentage of realtor's will buy this for their virtual tours.

But with only about a 50 degree vertical FOV and questionable playback presentation and perhaps a custom plug-in download required it may not have much of a impact here. Hard to say as the details on this are few, at least from what I've found so far.

O'well one more toy to buy and explore smile The 360 lens does look like perhaps an interesting form of mirror on a stick.

Hi everybody,

I owned a camera sporting such a lens last year.
It's the Pentaone P360-M25 security camera:

Pleass find images taken with it here:
www.diy-streetview.org/2009/08/01/diystreetview-v...
www.diy-streetview.org/2009/07/28/1256-streetview...

A time lapse video I created from the images:
www.diy-streetview.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=...

After all, the very small hvof and the reflections of the protective clear plastic dome made me returning it.

Read all about the new approach in making a streetview rig here:

It's 5 times as expensive as the Eye Candy (www.panascopia.com/) which I have tested on a video camera, and the image quality is just as bad!

Pierre,

the "Eye Candy" was a mirror, while this one has a palnon lens. Totally different systems.

Good info on the Eye Candy:
www.360und180.de/one-shot-sky-candy.html

Palnon lens:
www.jbc-group.com/lens/

Last year I had the Pentaone P360M25 panoramic security camera, that had a palnon lens too.

Images available here:
www.diy-streetview.org/2009/07/28/1256-streetview...

I think for 200 USD you will get an amazing toy.

@ Jan Martin, sorry to burst your bubble (or lens) but the SONY does use a mirror, a double one, a parabolic bottom with a hole in it and one against the top. The Palnon lens would be too expensive for this gimmick!

Eye Candy didn't come with an HD video camera did it?

Have you got a sample of the Sony Bloggie's 360 lens?
