Car interior panos... there is only one sensible solution to that issue, and I am very happy about having "discovered" it on my own.

Recently I bought this automatic head from Frank (bigwade), and have finally taken some time out of my days to make it work for me - and work it does (after several initial headaches).

1. Camera (Olympus E-520 + Zuiko ED 8mm Fisheye
2. Shutter cable connects to the head and fires automatically when in position.
3. Automatic pano head.
4. Bluetooth unit for the head.
5. Hand control for the head.
6. Nodal Ninja EZ-leveler.
7. Cheap small tripod I modified for becoming fit for use.
8. Power cable for the head.
9. 12v 7ah battery, carrying enough power for a whole lot of time, capable of at least 300 recharges.

This setup is 70cm / 27in tall, and can be reduced in height by removing the EZ-leveler.

Here seen at work:

Here a pano shot with it using this small tripod with legs extended to max height:

The camera is not adjusted into perfect position, and the resulting pano is done on full automation, no photoshopping and output through Flashificator in a few seconds, adding only fullscreen button and a nadir clock.

The seat of the car was very soft and moving the car, closing the door, leaning against the car, resulted in the tripod to move a lot. But due to smooth panning and tilting of the head, it really didn't move at all during the sequence. This is THE only way to shoot a car pano. No more stone-age methods needed cool (I only say that because I never managed to shoot a proper pano from inside a car before... and with this equipment I could do it without ANY problem at all).

Hello Trausti,

I was expecting to see the interior of the car shot in the video clip, but the pano is a different one.

how about showing the interior of the pano shot using this set up

BTW, the exterior pano is also good, and nice to know that it completely shot automatically with the auto head.

Regards.

Here you have it:

www.flashificator.com/1/Diverse/FirstTryCarAutoPa...

Note: This is a double round (6+6 shots at EV -4 and 6+6 shots at EV +2), and my first (ever) attempt at using exposure fusion.... so the quality is anything but good. The big errors in the stitching are caused by me reaching inside the car and change the EV settings for the second round of shooting (the camera/tripod moved)... but it works, and will only get better when I have had an arm and crown machined to fit my camera/lens setup.

Putting jacks under the jack points of the vehicle will render it rock-solid, preventing some of these errors.

wink You could also flatten all four tires blush

Cutting up the tires for a pano shoot.... sounds like a plan.... if I was to make panos for my enemies ... smile

It would still not resolve the main problem, which is the effect of a top heavy tripod standing on soft seats. That is the main problem one has to deal with.

If you lived in Manchester, you would not have to worry about flattening the tyres. The whole car would be on bricks anyway!

smile And I'm still very thankful for all of your help and patience and understanding!

I just found a company that can make a new crown and arm for the head with high precision CNC machinery. I will have them copy the arm on the Nodal Ninja and have it built in one piece with the crown (if it won't be too difficult for them to manage)... that will enable me to move the camera from the AutoHead to the Nodal Ninja head in seconds, using the same camera mounting plate. Hopefully they can do the job well enough.
