To start off with try Hugin for stitching and PanoCube for turning the equirectangular image into a .mov pano. Both are free downloads.
Check out my panos of Penang at, www.peterloud.co.uk/photos/Penang/
They were made with PTGui & Pano2QTVR, but they cost money

Depends... If there are object close to your camera on the panorama - you'll probably need a panoramic head.
If your panoramas are typical landscape panoramas - then there should be no problem stitiching (see my panoramas here: www.panoye.com/user.101-puzz.html )

Try autostitch. Very easy to use. If you can excuse me for my poor english, you can try this quick tutorial:

Hi moOok,
> "btw.. i don have the panoramic head... is it still can take good pano photo??"
Tidak apa apa.
Try a couple of landscapes with nothing too close to you, and you'll get away without too many problems without a pano-head bracket. When you want a pano-head bracket make your own. You could have a little workshop make one like my Nodal Samurai for about RM5 out there. www.nodalsamurai.co.uk/
Forget all the fancy panorama software for the moment, aim for PTGui & Pano2QTVR, but try those freebies first. Some of other software packages will just waste your time.
Oh I forgot to mention Photoshop, I assume everyone uses that. If you have CS2 you are OK there.
However, be warned, you have a lot of learning and experimentation in front of you.
I haven't shot any panos of Khoo Kongsi, (I regard it as too touristy, albeit incredibly beautiful), so you have a virgin, prime site waiting for you.
Cheers,
Pete

Nothing cheaper than the "philopod" ! www.philohome.com/tripod/shooting.htm
With a steady hand, you can get very reasonable panos with shutter speeds quicker than 1/30. Put a coin on the ground, hang the string from as close to the nodal point of your lens, and turn the camera so the weight hovers just above the coin. Use a shoe-bubble to ensure the camera is level and take 2 photos more than you think you need for a full sphere to ensure you covered the whole sphere. No tripod needed! Good for panos taken ourdoors with lots of ambient light.
At the very least it will introduce you to some fundamental concepts underlying the art of panography.
Happy shooting! gus

Thanks for intro me the modalsamurai.. is very very useful.. will go to make it when free..
i have manage to get PTGUI 5.8.3, but it seem like very professional compare to the Arcsoft Panorama maker the i use..
but.. i use the same 4 photo.. to put into this two different software.. the result that come out.. Arcsoft one can manage to stitch all together.. but PTGUI seem to be a bit problems with that.. is it the setting problems? or else?
here is the stitch by Arcsoft Panorama Maker 4.0
here is the stitch by PTGUI 5.8.3
look at the towel at the chair.. is seem a bit problems for the stitching.. and the top right of the television..
which one is the better one? the picture above not yet been edited.. just after stitch only..
you are from UK rite? u always come penang? haha.. khoo kong si is very nice.. but the ppl inside is very proud.. they treat us very not nice.. will going there to learn sono ...

Landscape is not the main criteria. It depeneds on whether there are objects close (few meters or less) to your camera's lenses.
In a typical landscape panorama - objects are usually distant from the camera, and that is the reason why panoramic head is not "a must". (See for example the mountains on this panorama: www.panoye.com/panorama.837-parque-natural-de-red...)

just now i go to my house there to have some try..
i stitch using the Arcsoft Panorama Maker.. combine by 5 photo in vertical.. i din screw up my dslr on the tripod.. i just lay my lens on the center no the tripod... then hold it tight.. and turn to the right and snap one by one.. this is the result of that.. is it any comment on this? i have many try on it.. but some is fail.. the only success which is this...
