Hi and Happy holidays!
This are three panos taken handheld using Canon 350D and Sigma 8mm with the following shooting technique
Camera in landscape position. For better handle of the camera I used the quick release plate of my tripod mounted on camera if you have battery gripp is even better.
The camera was keeped with the left hand under (with hand on quick release plate) and with the right hand as usual
For rotate with about 60 degrees I used the focus point fisible in my view finder like (for Canon 350D with Sigma 8mm 3.5 - between those marked with x I have 60 degress) the focus points can be redlighted on/off for better view using dedicated button for selecting focus points

Photo2 at + 60 degrees of yaw

I rotate the body (mine) around left leg trying to keep the camera at the same level.
While I don't have fullframe camera I tilted the camera to have area of interest well represented
the post process used can tolerate up to +-15 degrees from correct expected yaw so if one simple rotate bit by bit and take photos, at the end, if 12 photos are taken then will be 6 in that area of tolerance anyhow, the more photos the better.
The panos can be viewed only in DevalVR

I respectfuly invite any FE owner to take the opportunity of these holidays and to try to shoot as I described or to ask for better explanation or for better English
The techicque uses PTGui or Hugin for correcting the waw I'll explain the steps if the interest are shown. I guess the advanced users of those two software may already know.
It will be also nice to see a try with a fullframe camera and for benefits of many any tips for rotating around 60 degrees for various combos will be usefull.

Awesome work Dorin
Considering this was my first real go at hand held panorama shooting and I "felt" I was wobbling all over the place. It is remarkable it turned out at all!
The fact your software along with Fiero's DevalVR viewer can display it so well is a compliment to you both.
I will attempt to supply you with more images using different fisheye lenses for further testing. (Hopefully the next day will not be so hot!)

Aloha Dorin,
FYI - there is something happening when I attempt to load some of your Deval panos such as this one, that locks up my cable broadband "modem." It recovers quickly on a system reset, but I don't get to see those panos!
It happens on a different computers over different days. Obviously I don't know if it's a local problem or if folks in other locations have a similar problem.
The "stereo" images work well as do many of your other panos..
Happy New Year! Regards, Ed

That's because at this stage many conections are opened for this kind of panos, there are some restrictions of the number of conections through some proxy, and maybe ISP. After Fiero finish some improvements in DevalVR the number of connections will be very much reduced.
I prepared a zip archive with one sample of this kind to be availlable for download and to view it on your HDD, then it will be not such problems.
But, I guess, is not appropriate to put Smooths photos in that archive, so if is ok with you I put a pano of mine in that archive and then you only need to imagine that is almost full sphere on fulframe as on mine 350D is as you see incomplete on top and bottom. dorin.devalvr.com/zip/patinaj01.zip
Even better, take six photos handheld around, with your camera with fisheye lens in landscape position tilted to have the area of interest well covered, try to rotate with 60 degrees yaw for each. If don't know how to roate, take many at small intervalls, if you have 12 at the end will be surelly 6 out of them at required 60 degrees +-15 the accepted error. Zip those photos up, jpegs will be just fine, send me a link to the zip and the next year you'll have a pano like this of your own.

Hello Smooth,
I went to see your website which is really cool !
I wanted to ask you how do you succeed to customize the buttons on a QTVR window ?
Do you use PTGui for the stitching ? I am wondering if it just consist to create the buttons on photoshop and to load them in PTGui ?
Regards !
Andy

G'day Andy,
Mate, buttons were inserted with Pano2QTVR from www.gardengnomesoftware.com (you had me stumped for a bit, I didn't think I had any online using this feature!) Using Photoshop and some coding you can make your own buttons. But this was a default set supplied with the program from memory.
Yes, I use PTGui and Panoweaver for stitching.

hello again folks after 13 months of internet-abstinence at home. the second pan -using manual roation- also blocked my pc(well configurated w2k with 2gb mem) but i dont have cable anymore but slow usb-modem(mobile-solution with antenna on the roof). 100kb/s downloads resetting worked. maybe i didnt wait enough until full image was loaded. are the stops unavoidable when changing from one to the other shot? what do you mean with 3d-panorama? what is the difference between a panorama and a 3d-panorama?

Excuse me for being the spoilsport, but there's something I dont understand about stitchless panos: What is the point?? Why would you want to present a pano that is jumpy, with features appearing and disappearing from photo to photo, if there's cheap (free) software out there to create beautiful blended panos. Am I missing something?

Hi gus,
The stitchless is a begining, also is a begining of an end too. A golden era of "allow to blend in VR" is about to reach its end. I'm working on a blended/seamless transition to the new era.

I am unable to see the panos as I am on a mac. Is there any way you can post these to view with QuickTime?
Also, by stitchless, what exactly do you mean?
Thanks!

James and Ed,
Fiero is the only one qualified to answer when DevalVR will be available on Macs, until then them are only visible for Windows machines which are at only 300 kb away from to be able to see them.
In short, stitchless is something like showing in the viewer what a camera saw when was pointed toward the direction you pan to, the edges of that FE or rectliniar image is allways out of your screen/sight so is no seam nor blending visible

On a slightly different tack to the rest of the thread but I cannot get over on what can be achieved handheld. Take a look at John Houghton's London Eye pano at www.johnhpanos.com/eye.htm taken handheld. Impressive I think you'll agree!
