DPP 3.2 with lens CA correction but 350D and 20D not supported

I've tried to post this the other day but due to many capitals in Lens type I couldn't

the link
software.canon-europe.com/products/0010426.asp

seems that for lens correction it uses new data like focus distance which is not recorded by those two cameras 350D and 20D (yet ?) maybe future firmware for these cameras to enable that

if one have 350D one can use ExifToolGUI to "patch" RAW data mean to simply indicate the lens type and then the lens correction works! I mean works really well smile

a quick test

I don't know yet about 20D but if I can get my hand on a 20D RAW file I can check about.

So only the Lens type was really needed to patch in raw data, for the focus distance there is a slider in lens correction form.

Dorin.

Dorin, I can let you have a RAW file from my 20D, but must the lens be a Canon lens that DPP supports?

John, I guess can be entered a similar lens from canon data close from the real one, let's see for sure.
Please send a link to that RAW

John, it works

You only need to use Exiftoolgui (I've sent you a link) browse to your RAW, double-click on it then use the menu for setting the lens type, that is.

the raw will be overwrited and a back-up copy of the original will be also maded
Then in DPP the CA correction will be available, I saw that if one use distorsion correction the sharpness might suffer, but in panoramics distorsion will be corrected in stitching, so maybe is not required, for still photo is usefull though

Hi,

Just a correction and an update,

Correction
is need for simple click on that RAW (not double-click), sorry for misleading.

Update
Works for FE Sigma 8mm too if you set for lens type, say
EF 16-35mm f/2.8L

I mean works CA and Vigneting correction not distorsions corrections of course.

I don't know yet if is better than PTLens or other CA correction software but there are 4 sliders to play with including focus distance and that might give you some control.
Also, not sure that EF 16-35mm f/2.8L is the best you can choose from but sure is better that choosing 18-55mm (I checked that).
Again is about the type you set in RAW data to enable lens correction in DPP is not about the very lens here.
