Hi guys,
Before long while I was making panos using D100 and Sigma 8mm having manfrotto 303SPH head.
Now after one year I want to start again. I came to know that we can make pano from any lens or equip. one of my friend suggest nikon 10mm fisheye. It's reviews are good now my que. is is it better in crowdy situations too? because by using sigma 8mm we need 4 shots and top-bottom while in 10mm may be we required 6 shots+top-bottom.
Can anybody guide me should I go with nikon 10.2mm or sigma 8mm f3.5? I want quality and to do panos in crowd too.
thanks guys kind regards

I have the 8mm Sigma and the 15mm Canon lens. I have heard the Nikon is a fraction better quality than the Canon lens.
The Sigma being 8mm means you loose detail further away and the quality isn't on par with the Nikon and Canon lenses.
I use the 8mm for crowds and places where less shots are more desirable (fireworks display for example) and the 15mm for more static areas. I try to avoid the 8mm as much as possible though.
All have their strengths and weaknesses and all will produce excellent results regardless.

Also the sharpness of your panos are really damn good. Specially I would like to know that which equipments you used for "rome-colluseum1" and "rome-pantheon" ... I'd go for the Nikon 10.5. I think it is a outstanding lens. I use it all the time for my panos.

Yes Syn, All the crowd shots were done with the 10.5 lens on a D200. The best advice I can give you is practice, practice practice. I regularly shot multiple shots of the same view and pick the best image that will allow for a good overlap in the stitching process. Send me a e-mail and I'll run you though my work flow.

If youneed speed - go for Sigma.
I have both Nikkor and Sigma, love them both.
Some panos are just impossible with Nikkor, some will look bad with Sigma.
Sigma is more universal, easyer to correct CA, less prone to flare than Nikkor.
My 2 cents.
Nikkor (naturally) provides better resolution.
