One-Shot 360º Photo Journalism Gear Recommendation?

Do you have a one-shot gear recommendation for photo journalism?
Presently shooting bracketed, multi-shots with Canon body, Signma 8mm lens; PT Gui Pro and Pano2VR.
Challenge: shooting outdoors with lots of people; can't ask them to stand still.
Thanks,

its not quite a one shot system but it might suit your purposes as its the next level of quality up from this although the nadir is too large in my opinion for the money this thing costs.

[Girocam] What about adding a GoPro to cover the nadir?

That's not bad. But they have stitch errors (alignment errors); exposure mis-matches; huge and ugly nadir -- and it must be really expensive because they don't mention the price.
They are on the right track though. A dedicated imaging system makes so much more sense than trying to create panos with an ordinary camera.
I would suggest they consider a tetrahedral arrangement where you have 4 cameras. But I'm sure they get lots of people like me making suggestions.....

the retail on the girocam is $1999.99
I would even concider it with such a huge nadir. 4 cam would be better i agree. with the current layout i would feel obligated to take 2 shots anyways 60 degrees apart then the nadir would be a hexagon instead of a huge triangle.

Spiritburner: Thank you for the one shot 360º lens and camera in one system, girocam.com Do you know of any other solutions in the $500 to $3,000 range?
Immersium, DemonDuck and vn2009: Thank you for the discussion regarding the Girocam: particularly the challenge with the large, triangle nadir.
Immersium: Can you provide a link to the GoPro solution for covering the nadir?
DemonDuck: Have you seen any online reviews the Gircam technical challenges that you describe?
Mediavets: great images; thanks for sharing. I only bracket outdoors, as needed. Can you let me know which one-shot mirror lens (URLs)? Thanks for suggesting the robotic mounts. The links are most helpful.
Badders: Are you working on a one-shoot lens/camera solution? Is that what "watch this space" means?
Juergen: Amazing images. Thanks for sharing. Do you spend a lot of time with post production? Masking? PhotoShot? Or, do you shoot fast enough between shots that you don't have these challenges? If so, do you shoot 3 images or 4 and are you using a pole and robotic mount solution?
Thanks all. I continue to welcome one-shot gear recommendations for photo journalism .... Dan

I shoot those with 4 around, in this case from a handheld monopod. Finishing was pretty easy, just some minor corrections in PS layers.
Although I didn't do that for the first time thats hardly predictable. But I can assure you that this is the common practice amongst all colleagues and thus pretty much straightforward once you learn how to handle your gear and workflow.

Although I didn't do that for the first time the outcome is hardly predictable and highly depends on the individual subject. But I can assure you that this is the common practice amongst all colleagues and thus pretty much straightforward once you have learned how to handle your gear and understand the workflow to get a perfect stitch.

For the money I think you really only have the Girocam option for one click simplicity, i happen to know that they are looking to reduce the size of the nadir in the next version so it can be capped by a nadir logo so either they are increasing the FOV or adding an additional camera, i believe they are also looking to include video in their next firmware upgrade.
Its difficult to comment on the stitching issues on the examples they use on their website whether these are a consequence of user error/bad stitching or mal-aligned equipment who knows, most of the website does not actually contain anything and to be frank the examples they have shown are not particularly good in view of the costs that are involved.
Its a pity as its a good idea and for rough and ready panoramas it could be a useful item in your toolbox if they can tidy up the nadir, the price they sell it at would mean its in the range of the average real estate agents budget and with video and an hdr option it certainly would be a good selling point.
But at the end of the day you pay peanuts you get monkeys but Jo Public seems to be happy with the quality of Google Streetview and Microsoft Photosynth so who knows and with the advent of full panoramas on iphone 5 coming watch this space.
Me, I will stick with my Canon 5D
Regards.
