iSpace tours - panos running like a dream on iPad/iPhone/iPod

Hi all - been a while since I've been back. Nice new site layout! Just wanted to show off my set of panos designed for Apple mobile devices: simply 'Tap & Tour' is my mantra. No apps - complications - just panos in the palm of your hand:
click the link below within your iPad/iPhone/iPod touch (be sure to launch the tours with your device in the 'Book-Reader' position and then tap the Full Screen icon for the show to really begin):
www.ispace-tours.com/france-ipad/
Enjoy the show!
I look forward to any feedback from this group of admired fellow panographers.
Kind regards - Tom

Well, while the panoramas seem to look pretty good I can tell you that navigating these on my iPhone is a pain.

You need to learn some CSS to get this working.

Appears to be PTGUI Flash/html5 output.

Works on my MacBook Pro but not on my iPhone 4 or iPAD 1.

Haha, what kind of dream?

Hi Tom,
It may need a bit of fine-tuning I guess. I've tested it on my iPhone 3GS and iPad 1, both running the latest iOS 4.3.
In portrait orientation the basic page looks fine on the iPad, on the iPhone the panorama is way too small, the full-screen button hard to see or even press.
When rotating either device to landscape the panorama just disappears!
In full screen it seems to be a little hit-and-miss as well, sometimes it looks fine and then there are grey borders to the right and below!?!
Switching back to non-fullscreen sometimes messes up the page layout.
Before you announce something's running like a dream you'd better test it thoroughly.

Exactly. Probably what he wanted to say is that he was dreaming they were running

Sorry Tom, slow and clunky on my iPod. What did you use to produce these?

Hi again everyone. Thanks for your helpful feedback and good humoured comments (gotta love that line "he was dreaming they were running" ... very quick Juergen! Clay: Smooth was right - I use PTGui's web tool. It's a clunky & imperfect tool at the moment. I have to use the first edition of 9.0 because the PTViewer in 9.03 adds all sorts of bells & whistles but degrades the image quality considerably. Who needs Gyroscopic navigation when the image you navigate is a blur. Has anyone else found this to be the case? I am able to run my tours on all Apple mobile products however and that is a plus (clunky or otherwise). I've been reading post from all sorts of sources that express frustration in even getting a pano on mobile devices at all. Hans: you suggested CSS. I agree with you - I have little knowledge of the appropriate scripts. Do you know of any source that can help me in getting these tours up and running in a better way? I greatly admire you work and would be deeply grateful for any advice you might have in this direction. Badders: the tours will work if you place your devices in the portrait position when you first launch them. Though it looks as if they can get funky real quick if you rotate to landscape during the tour. Henri - thanks so much for the screen shots. They are an enormous help to me. Scary - but eye-opening and useful. John: I onlyu have an iPod Touch myself and have been testing these without much problem as well. My clients have iPads and are actually very pleased with the results. That's possibly because they have nothing else to compare them to at the moment. Gentlemen: I value all your comments and would welcome any advice you can give me to improve this feature. CSS will most likely be the answer. If any of you have a spare script hanging about and would like to share - we would all benefit from the generosity.
Thanks again everyone!

Hi Tom,
You might want to check out this solution for IOS devices. vrhabitat.com/ Example: (not without problems of its own) www.claytonm.com/iVR/TomsBurnedDownCafe/
But generally cleaner, faster with content sized for the iPod or iPad automatically. I'm sure there are other solutions, I'd be interested in knowing them too.

Hi Clay, how do you use the VRHabitiat software.
I'm currently using Pano2VR. how do you incorporate this into your workflow so the same panos play on an iPad?

Hi Chuck,
Won't Pano2VR do it for you now?
VR5 from VRhabitat doesn't play the same pano, it plays a different 480 cube face pano on the iphone/ipod and a 1024 cube face pano on the iPad. It detects what iDevice you have and gives you the appropriate size, and you can also set it up to play alternate Flash content on other devices.
It's a lot of work and there are some display bugs, but I like the look of it, at least until I can find something better.
Regards, Clay

Clay,
Don't mean to hi-jack the thread here but you mentioned looking for another solution.
Have you taken a test drive of Krpano? For simple integration, I don't think it can be beat. If you like customizing, you can do that too. I have not used Pano2VR so I really can't compare it but I am quite happy with the functionality of both the Flash player and the idevice player and it all can be run on one XML file if you want it that way.

Plus KRpano also works fine on Android.
