Multirow VS Fish Eye 360x180

Does anyone have any advice on the quality difference of multirow 360x180 vs 6 shot fish eye 360 x 180. Does any one have any examples that they shot both ways? I am looking for professional results, High quality images for web site virtual tours. Right now I am learning how to do this with a Cannon 20D, 14mm Tamron, Manfrotto multilevel head 303 sph, PTGUI, and it is a pain in the A**. I haven’t figured out how to get the multirows to line up perfectly yet. I am assuming a fish eye is quicker but I am wondering about quality and distortion. I would love to hear any advice you guys & gals have. Thanks, SP&WD

This is just my opinion.
I use a fisheye in all my views. I do it for speed, ease, and, most important, cost (the multrow panorama head). The results in using a fisheye are very good. Since you are stitching and creating a spherical or cubic panorama, there is no more distortion in the final output than the multirow way. If you are only doing this for the web, then I really don't see the point in spending the extra time and money in a multirow production process. Having said all this, the multirow is going to yield a higher resolution image due to the fact that a fisheye lens, by nature, has less resolution. But, like I said, if you're doing it for the web, then why bother since you have to "dumb" down the final image anyway.
Although I don't publish mutlirow panoramas, you can check out my fisheye shots and get an idea for what you can expect. I would also encourage you to see the "hi definition" or "fullscreen" versions of the panoramas on my site to get the full effect of the shots. (Click on "Full Screen" in the navigation menu.)
hope this helps, David www.VirtualBigBend.com

David, what a brilliant site! How do you get such good detail using a fisheye? spwd01 - I'm using a Nikon FC-E9 on a coolpix 5700 and have found it's great for interior panos, but it's too "soft" for exterior ones and have resorted to multirow for scenery shots. You lose a circle of about 8-9ft radius round the base of the tripod shooting at around 3ft elevation with lens at full wide angle (around 37mm) and of course a large area of the sky, but I'm finding the increase in detail is worth the effort. I hope this helps.

Norman, Thanks,
I use a Canon 10D with a Sigma 8mm Fisheye. I also only shoot in RAW format and use the C1 RAW Image converter to "develop" them to JPG format. You can check out their software here: www.phaseone.com/
Shooting in RAW format definately helps enhance the detail in the images.
