is it possible with these tools?
Posted: 12 Apr 2010 at 7:44 GMT
Nikon D200, Ptgui and Pano2VR i have. but i did not decided which lens i should buy. with my lens 17mm, it is ok but not like i want. is Nikkor 10.5mm f/2.8G ED fisheye suitable for me? or can i form panoramas with 17mm by taking more photos? i want to make real estate virtual tours like tactus360.com/examples.html . (sorry for my bad language)

Yes it would be an excellent choice.

You could but it's a pain having to shoot and stitch so many images.

Then go for the Nikkor 10.5mm FE, of if that's more than you wish to pay then consider the Samyang 8mm FE.
.....

Which pano head do you have or plan to use?

ihave no idea about pano head, just fine with my broun bt1203 tripod, rotating head is not so difficult.

You have no hope of producing decent interior panos shot using a FE lens without a proper pano head which allows the camera/lens to rotate in two axes around the No Parallax Point (NPP).

The Nodal Ninja series of pano heads is very popular:

Nikon 10.5mm FE - don't even consider the Sigma 4.5mm FE.

If you want something cheaper than the Nikkor 10.5mm FE then look to the Samyang 8mm FE.

You can use any lens to shoot panos, but some are more suited to certain types of pano than others.

See this to get an idea of how many images you will need for 360x180 coverage with different camera bodies and lenses.
www.vrwave.com/panoramic/photography/lens_databas...

Essentially you will need fewest with fisheye lens, and ever more with longer focal lenght rectilinear (non-fisheye) lenses. OTOH you will of course also get ever higher resolution stitched pano images.

For a pano destined for on-line display a fisheye lens will produce sufficient resolution, require far fewer shot and be easier to stitch and post-process.

The D200 and a Nikkor 10.5mm FE is a nice combo for spherical panos if coupled with a good pano head.

I recently bought the 10.5 Nikon, it's an amazing lens. As said earlier, without panohead it's nearly impossible to make a decent hires pano. (unless you're in the middle of the grand canyon wink)
