Best pano lens
Posted: 12 Mar 2010 at 21:56 GMT
I am new to this, looking for one of those 360 one shot cheap (relatively) lenses... What is the best one? There is the EGG lens and it looks fancy, essentially.. is there even a difference between all the brands? "360-0" claims it uses glass and for that it is the best to buy.

Thanks

Save yourself the frustration and horrifying results, and put your money into something that can be used to produce images that you can present to others.

That means: Good camera + fisheye lens + Nodal Ninja 5 or NN R1 - and a stitching program.

The one shot systems can be used for projects where no one expects to see any details, where an image isn't even worth a dollar in resale.

IF you absolutely want to get such a system, the best one would be found at www.pano-pro.com

You should really think about how you are going to spend your money before it's too late. I know of many people who have purchased these one shot mirrors, and NONE of them have used them for paid projects, since the quality has been unacceptable, and all of these people I know of, have tried to sell the mirrors, willing to take a significant loss, just to get rid of them.

If you have a DSLR camera already, you might be able to get a Samyang fisheye lens for it... costing around $300, and a Nodal Ninja 3 head might fit you as well... those 2 elements (lens + Nodal Ninja) would cost less than the one shot mirror, but then comes the stitching program (PTgui) that evens the price and adds a little bit more to it... but you would have something you could USE and get nice results from.

Don't kill your interest in panorama photography by purchasing something that will never give you proper results.

Listen to Trausti, both the egg and 0-360 are pure crap. Get a proper set up and save your money.

Most of us on this forum are heavy duty "stitchers" and not fans of the one-shot systems

The "one shots" aren't so much "lenses" as they are conical mirrors.

Shooting straight up, anything above the the mirror won't be in the photo. For a lot of work this is fine, but for the Sistine Chapel or something with a remarkable ceiling its definitely not the right way to go.

The best combination should be the mirror from www.eyesee360.com/gopano/ with their software PhotoWarp.

But you can't shot fullscreen panos with this combination and you will get only low res images so it would better to get a cheap or used DSLR with the 8mm Samyang Fisheye.

In the Sistine Chapel there are no tripods allowed, so you have to shot handheld using a DSLR with very good high ISO capabilities (Canon 5D/5DMKII or the new Nikon cameras).

I am working on a low budget project on my own time. I need to take the 360 view shot at an instance since I will be going over 30mph while taking the shots. I thought of getting 3 cameras with fisheyes and use a laptop to take the pictures at the same time but that would be an overkill. I am not a professional photographer and not looking for insanely high quality pictures. Amateur pictures will suffice for the purpose of my project. Undermining professional photography is not intended.
