PTgui Plug In
Posted: 14 Oct 2009 at 6:08 GMT
hi,

I finally could handle panoramas in PTgui, I was just thinking, in order to improve my stitching, How good are this Plug Ins, Autopano, Emblend & Smartblend.. I already installed them, the question is How do they work?? Do they do everything automatically when I am stitching?? or do I have to select just One in the Tab "Create Panorama"
Stitch Using: & Blend Using:
Do you recommend to use them or just in difficult stitching cases ??

Use Smartblend. It is a fantastic little plugin that will help eliminate ghosts, parallax errors and such.

In my opinion it is the best blender available.

Hey Sal,
My understanding is if using these as plug ins, as you suggest you choose them in the final create pano stage. From there it is an automatic process.
I usually use PTgui for both however on occasion have used smartblend. I haven't really taken the time yet to understand the command line settings as such use the default settings.

You'll find some suggested parameter settings for the plugins in www.johnhpanos.com/ptgtut.htm . Smartblend is good for hiding stitching errors due to parallax or movement, but I've found that PTGui generally does a better job of blending the zenith than Smartblend. Smartblend and Enblend will ignore images that are not needed to give complete coverage of the 360x180 sphere. That is to say, an image will not be used if there is no hole left to fill by the other images. PTGui Pro has the Blend Priority option that enables a nadir shot, for instance, to cover up the tripod when there is no actual hole to be filled. Likewise the zenith, when there is an untidy seam area formed by the horizontal shots.

Autopano can only be run via the Control Points menu. It doesn't seem any more successful at finding control points in the Raynox images than PTGui, though.

I've seen the same results. PTGui does zenith perfectly (usually) whereas Smartblend and Enblend make vortexes.

Maybe someday Joost can merge the best of all three blenders....
