Hi all, I'm new here. Anyone knows how to setup a Nikon D70s for shooting full spherical HDR panos using Sigma 8mm lens? I would like to let camera do as much things as possible in auto. thank you.

Step 1: Turn OFF anything AUTO!...
1. Set Camera to MANUAL MODE 2. Set Aperture to f/8 3. Turn OFF Auto-focus 4. Set Lens focus to 1m 5. Set ISO to 200 6. Set White Balance according to conditions 7. Adjust Shutter speed to suit most prominent feature in scene
Take all shots for this panorama at same settings.

thank you for the quick answer. So I can't use the Auto-focus property of my lens? Is not possible to use Nikon's Auto Multi Program (P)? thank you again

J At F8 or higher your Depth of Field/Focus will be so deep that the Auto Focus may screw it up if there is something closer than the rest of the photo. Manual at 1m is pretty much the accepted setting for a Sigma 8mm
If you're shooting indoor scenes, I suggest getting and ExpoDisc. I'm using one for a series of hotel virtual tours shoots and its great how it helps get the White Balance set up in low lighting and with mixed lite sources

You get a greater depth of field when you focus on 1m. See this article: www.nikonians.org/html/resources/guides/dof/hyper... . There's a link to a useful hyperfocal distance calculator.

Thank you! So I'm very much mistaken, you will need to review and alter their work ...

NEW I hope that was ment to be a joke.
If you search the forum for DOF or focusing you will find hundreds of posts about the importance of using the depth of field and about not using automatic focus.
The trouble with many fisheyes is also that you can not always trust the focus scale on them or the scale does not have any way of setting the focus properly at the best hyperfocal distance. For example the Nikkor 10.5mm and the Tokina 10-17 has a scale starting at 0.5m and there is nothing between 0,5 and infinity. Also remember that almost all lenses including the Sigma 8mm can focus behind the infinity. You can focus "behind" infinity which happens if you just turn focus all the way to stop. The reason for this is that the focus may change with temperature. See my test here www.panoramas.dk/technics/focus.html
Hyperfocal means the distance that gives you a sharp image from infinity to the closest point at a given aperture.
With the 8mm DOF is not a large problem as it is extreme even at full aperture. However I would not trust that the scale is giving you the distance it actually says as the precision for a short lens like 8mm has to be extreme. Best is always to take a couple of test shots.
You can find the DOF easy with this table. www.dofmaster.com/dofjs.html
Another problem with fisheyes is that focusplane is flat which means that the distance to an infinity subject at the edge of the circle is just 10-20 cm
