Input needed : Quit my job part 2
Posted: 4 Apr 2005 at 17:46 GMT
Hiya guys, well i quit my job last month to pursue panoramas full time. I accidently got another job, but have now balanced the time to make this work. I spent all weekend (again)working on my site overhaul so i have something to go out and help me sell, 99% done. Still have to add some more text. www.triggerhappy.ca

Input as to how long these pages are loading and over all impressions would be awesome. The more i stare at my new homepage the more i hate it..sigh wink
I would love to hear from anyone as you guys all know this niche better than anyone.
Have fun
Dylan

Hey Dylan,

My opinion for whats it's worth!

Your prices are too low.
Why are you trying to explain the shooting procedure? (Customers are to come to your site to buy not get educated)
Site design is OK, much the same as everybody else's.
Your font should change from your name to everything else (is the site Triggerhappy or Dylan Surridge Photography?)
I would suggest referring to yourself as the third person is also not a great idea from a marketing prospective.

Overall, you do some good work and the site is plan and simple enough to navigate. Just need to set your boundaries, are you educating or selling?

Oh! and your homepage .mov pano moves all over the place based on window size and screen resolution.

and WHY? are you using a gmail email address for business? Very unprofessional. At least make it look good and redirect a info@triggerhappy.ca to that freebie account. It's not quite as bad as a @hotmail address but close.

thanks smooth, Hmm take the cubic page for example www.triggerhappy.ca/home_cubic.html
the first price of $109 is a bit low but the 2nd price is a bit high(?), but i do spend a long time producing the latter. I just figured i needed to explain the price increase no?
I think i get what you mean though. I just removed a flash gallery of regular photos that took me a year to make with friends but it didnt fit, so im going to make another site for regular photo stuff later but want to focus on panoramas, so this site is very important to me.
Im trying hard to make a "normal" site, im more of a camera geek than a computer nerd, but ive got great help available. I want to start doing and selling! wink
Thanks for the wise words
Have fun
Dylan
P.S how much would it cost to ship a bottle of wine to you?

Hi Dylan,
Congradulations on your business venture. I hope it works out I did somthing similar four years ago. The first eighteen months were rough, but now I'm glad I did it.

I don't hate your home page, but the rest of your site looks much better and much different. I agree with Smooth that your prices are to low, your work is better than your prices. My only other suggestion is to offer product VRs in Flash. Flash product VRs are easier to sell, because more people have it installed in their computer.

Anyway good luck. I look forward to seeing your completed site.

Ahh but would your first 18 months have been rough if your prices were lower? j/k blush
Um back to that, are all my prices to low? Is this some sort of Canadian dollar problem or are they way out? Ive checked locally and used great resources like www.vrphotography.com/data/pages/askexperts/busin... etc. but maybe im way out to lunch. I did want to start small until i achieve the next level.

Hi Dylan,

Would you buy a 2 year old car for $1000?.. Probably not because you would think there is something wrong with it.

I achieve more work with higher prices than when they were low - It also enables me to spend more time on each tour and get a good result and therefore better feedback.

It works for all services - low prices = rushed work = low quality = less work.

I think they need to be higher.

Also, as Smooth says, inform less if you can. Small, regular and large should be sufficient.

Last of all - don`t expect miracles from your site. My site has reasonable search engine rankings and most work still comes from doing example tours.

cheers

John
