Sigma 10mm + Canon 40D. Light Flare is horrible even at small fstop. Help.
Posted: 10 Jul 2009 at 17:45 GMT
Hi,
I have been getting a horrible light flares even if i use a small fstop say f16 f11 f8. But it's new lens and i dont see any dust particles and am sure there is no dust. Here is the link for the 360 which i shot day before. It has 2 different 360 panos. Please have a look at them and help me to get rid of that light flares. Thanks in advance.

Link to download Panos: rcpt.yousendit.com/711966042/71302329cee05ad289f8...

Weird file. I get a 3.2mb file with ending .7z
Not sure what it is supposed to be.

I tried to change it to .swf and to ,mov but no luck.

What do you use to convert your Raw files with.

Most Raw converters have CA removal. I checked some jpg samples I have from Sigma10mm and they are absolutely very ugly.

However without trying the RAW files I can not say if all CA can be removed.

The .7z zip archive can be expanded with various programs, as detailed on this page:

www.fileinfo.com/extension/7z

WinRAR worked ok for me.

John

I could upload the two .swf fles to my server if it would help.

hi all,

sorry for the delayed response. i did a small research and with the help of john i was very lucky to return that sigma 10mm fisheye back to the shop. today is my last day to return it. and just placed a new order for tokina 10-17mm lens. i have seen some of hans panoramas on tokina. it was stunning and have already seen some of john's panos. i hope tokina is definetly give the best result. and sorry about 7zip. 7zip is just like winzip and winrar. you can use any winzip or winrar to extract the files. pls comment about tokina 10-17mm. that would help me

CA = Chromatic Aberration/Colour Shift/Colour Fringing

It has absolutely nothing to do with the complaint you had about the lens flare.

Never use a zipper which puts an extension like .7z

This means that you do not know what it is.

I only heard of one extension which only uses 2 characters, the .ai Illustrator file which I always found weird.
The standard dezipping on Mac can not recognize the .7z and not even my Stuffit Expander accepts it. Not even after changing the extension to .zip.

Well, thats not quite true.
Actually Colour fringing can also be the result of lens flare.

The Sigma 10mm has more CA than I seen on any other fisheye so it may be connected.

I've loaded the two Sigma 10mm panos with nasty flare at:

www.johnhpanos.com/night1.swf
www.johnhpanos.com/night2.swf

I'll remove them in 24 hours.

That looks like dust.
I did exactly the same with my brand new Canon 15mm which is about the best fisheye you can get without almost any flair or CA.

But I forgot to clean it and my first panorama looked exactly like that.
New lenses has to be cleaned.

hans, cleaning? what do you mean by cleaning? just clean with a soft cloth which i have in the lens cleaning kit? if it's what you mean i have done that many times. and when i see the lens i see it very clear. i dont even see any finger printts or dust in that. i dont know why. anyways i have returned it and placed a new order for tokina 10-17mm fish eye.
thanks for uploading those files in your website john. i really appreciate it.
and sorry about 7zip. that's the best extractor i have seen in compression. so i used it. i did not think of mac. sorry.
