Dismal upload speed

I seem to have very low upload speed. On average 50 kb/s. Not good when trying to upload 5gb
I was wondering if you could try and upload an image for me and let me know what upload speed you got.
I have placed an image on my server which you can download and upload again as a test.
Please put the average upload speed you experienced here so I can see it.
The ftp details for this test is
# FTP Server: ftp.catalystpartnership.com # FTP Username: test@catalystpartnership.com # Password: test # FTP Server Port: 21
Many thanks to anybody who cares to help me.

Hi Jorgen,
What is the speed of your DSL connexion? 50 KB/s is a very good speed for uploading.
In Spain almost all DSL connexions have an upload speed of 300 Kbps (K bits per second), this is only a maximum of about 30 KB/s (K Bytes per second).
regards!

Jorgen, from The Capital of Scandinavia ( ha ha it is a trademark ) I'm on so called 24MBit ADSL .
meaning real life speed: 13MB/s download and 0,86 MB/s Upload
It took 59 s to upload your 5,7Mb jpeg to your server . ( average 110KB/s )

This is very common. Unless you pay a lot extra your upload speed is very small compared to your download. Its in your contract with your provider. For example if you look at the price list at TDC privat.tdc.dk/element.php?dogtag=f5_p_int_hjem_pr
It says 10/1 Mbit which is down/up 1mbit is 125 kb/sec
Check real speed at www.speedtest.net/
My current speed for Europe is 1600 kb/s down and 100 down Unfortunately USA is much different. Right now just 348 kb/sec from saltlake city

But at that speed it's impossible to upload RAW files for for example 5 panoramas since it will be around 500 mb. that will take forever.

I am wondering what data would you be uploading which amounts to 5GB? Now when you say raw files I understand, the alternative could be convert to jpeg best quality but then the other user who needs raw will not have the real benefit of raw data if he is expecting to edit these files.
I always send processed jpeg to my clients not the raw files since they wont need any editing further.
Also consider that your client who needs to download this huge data would also have to pay for bandwidth. The best way to send huge data is to use winrar or winzip which zips the files & uploading will be faster & also the files will be reduced in size without reducing the quality of raw data.

I don't do any processing so have to use RAW files so it's a lot to send. I understand it's the asymmetry of ADSL and that I should look for a place where they have an ISDN line.

It won't take quite forever for 500MB - more like 150 mins. The image took 107 seconds to upload on my 10Mb/s cable service (0.49Mb/s upload).

Unfortunately Raw files can not be compressed more. Remember that they already are compressed in most cameras. I tried both CR2 and NEF files and there is only a few mb difference for a zip.

You may very well be able to get an upgrade to at least double your current upload speed. Not very expensive I guess, I used to pay extra a couple of years ago when I only had 128 as upload.

NEF is the raw files from Nikons. CR2 is what Canon uses.
