Tripod suggestion for Canon EOS 450D, Agnos MRotatorUT, Sigma 8mm Lens Kit for making panos
Posted: 14 May 2009 at 4:54 GMT
Hi,

I am relatively new to pano shooting and have Canon EOS 450D, Agnos MRotatorUT, Sigma 8mm lens and only thing left is tripod now. Based on the feedback and research, I am planning to go for Manfrotto 055PRO Tripod and 555B Column Leveller. But this is quite expensive. Can you guys please suggest me some better alternative which will be easy to use, good for shooting panos and cheaper tripod?

With that camera and lens the 055PRO is overkill. Get the Manfrotto 190PROXB.

And then do I need to purchase 555B Column leveller too?

Not really, with only 4 shots around in one plane its a simple matter to align the unit by adjusting the tripod legs then you can fine tune alignment in your stitching software if needed.

I have both the Manfrotto 190XPROB and a Velbon Sherpa 600R (among others). I would purchase another Velbon Sherpa 600R before buying a Manfrotto 190XPROB the Velbon is a far superior build and cheaper to buy in the first place.

If you are stitching with PTGui you can set your levels with the software. If you want to level up in the field then the Manfrotto #222 pistol grip leveler is fast and easy and I would say far more useful for other situations over a leveling column.

But the max height of 190XPROB is 1feet lesser than 055XPROB and I guess it will be better if we can keep the camera around center point between roof and floor to have good continuos panorama. Moreover, maximum capacity of 190XPROB is 4kgs and of 055XPROB is 7kg and with 450D+Lens+Rotator, weight will be around 4kg only I think.

About Velbon, I am not sure whether its available in India or not.

They need a webdesigner and a sales manager.

They keep saying that center column is an additional purchase.
But where the hxxx is it.

Finally found it .
In the Direct Purchase Instruction.
But there they say only for or "Old Buyer"

Well I am kind of "old" but what about the others.

I want to know what is the diameter.
And I want all the diameters of the monopod extensions also.

Manfrotto has it all on their site.

Since Saty is in India, the original Feisol site is maybe the way to go.
For others:
www.feisoleurope.com/
I have 2 of these tripods and I'm very happy with them.
Carbon, sturdy and lightweight.
My other tripods are Gitzo's and I think you can compare them.
(Gitzo-rate a 10, Feisol-rate, a 9 (out of 10))
Have Fun!
