Some guy on eBay has over a hundred Ipix fisheyes for sale. He implies that they are Nikon made.
Doug, you did Ipix stuff -- is this the real deal? I bought one. I figure for $50 you can't go way wrong. Tell me I didn't screw myself...

Ken,
It appears to be the FE convertor listed as a Soligor in this list: panopticus.altervista.org/fishlist/adapters.htm
Not sure what you plan to use it with nor what pano head could accommodate it.
Price is interesting.

Yes, it does look like the Soligor. The fish list guy says it's ok. For 50 bucks -- what the heck. It's worth trying.
I'm going to stick it on my Fuji e900. Should work. I use an old Nikon WC63 on it now and it work good enough for what I do. But it takes 24 shots for a full sphere. If I can get it down to 4 or 6 that would be great.
And I think my NN3 will work with it.
I'll get it in a week and post. The ebay guy says he has 180 of them.

Ken,
How do you plan to attach this Soligor/IPIX FE convertor to your camera?
I have mounted a Nikon P5100 with the WC-E63 WA convertor on a NN head using the T-30 adapter but it's a tight fit because of the size of the convertor.
You would need some sort of additional mounting block to mount something the size of an FC-E8 - but this one has a smaller diameter apparently.

The Fuji e900 (and e550 which I also have) has an adapter tube with a 52mm thread. I use a 52mm to 28mm step down ring to screw the lens in. With the WC63, they both fit easily on the NN3. I use the T20 adapter because the t-pod screw on both is offset 7mm and 11mm respectively. Everything works together nicely.
I think the Soligor is smaller than the WC63. Is the fc-e8 bigger than the WC63?

Yes, The FC-E8 has a larger diameter than the WC-E63.
But the Nikon P5100 is a small bodied camera so you may find the Soligor/IPIX FE convertor - which is said to have a smaller diameter, but longer barrel than the FC-E8 - with the Fuji compact fits OK using the T-20 on the NN3 head.
I look forwrad to hearing how you get on with it.

Ken eBay item 230326637259 is one of the lenses iPIX had made and still sells under Minds Eye View ownership.
They were orgininally used on non-Coolpix setups like the Canon Powershots and Casio cameras instead of the FC-E8 or E9 they used on the Coolpixes
It should be capable of doing 2 fisheye captures on a number of compact cameras including the Nikon Coolpix P5100. Here's a link to the camera kit they're selling now www.ipixstore.com/cart/index.cfm?cat=2&subcat=11
You're right you can't go wrong for $50 but I have no idea where to find the adapter to mount the lens to the camera
Good luck Doug Aurand Albuquerque, NM

Hi Doug,
It's supposed to have a 37mm back thread. There are 52mm to 37mm stepdown rings on eBay for a few bucks. I've used a stepdown ring (52mm to 28mm) for my Nikon WC63 and it works ok. I hope that's no problem -- I don't think it will be. I can alway sell the lens for more than I paid for it.
I wish I had a pile of money. I'd buy them all and double the price.

Ken If I wasn't tight on money, I'd buy one just for "collector" purposes.
I still have 2 complete Coolpix 950/FC-E8/iPIX 950 Rotator setups along with my Coolpix 5400/FC-E9/iPIX 5400 Rotator I use for real estate tours and a complete Coolpix 8700/FC-E9(a second one)/iPIX 8700/5700 Rotator that I haven't really used much.
If you can verify which adapter works, you could make a lot of newbie VR photographers happy.
Good luck Doug Aurand Albuquerque, NM

Ipix FC-E8 on sale for $40

It looks like they have over 1800 of them. I offered $40 and got one, maybe you could try to offer even less. It's difficult to sell all 1800. Erik

Ken,
How are you getting on with this lens?
I bought one too - mine arrived this morning.
It looks good to me. Obviously brand new.
Branded IPIX on lens 'rim' and front cap. Also has a bar coded label on the barrel that says 'Virtual Imaging Corp.'.
This company was acquired by Zaio Corp. in 2007 and then Zaio closed it down in 2008. So I guess these were old stock from VIC.
The front element has a smaller diameter than my FC-E8, but it has a shorter but larger diameter barrel. It might be possible to drill/machine out a Bophoto FC-E8 bracket to accommodate this lens I think - but not sure yet where NPP would be on this lens compared to an FC-E8 - perhaps Bo could/would make a custom version?

Shipping was $20 - I got my lens for $35 (my best offer) plus $20 shipping.
Will it work with G6 or G9? Dunno, apparently it works OK with Canon Powershot A series - with suitable adapters - if that is any guide?
I've just ordered a 28-37mm step up ring to see how it works on my Nikon P5100 with UR-E20 adapter and more ancient CP5000 with UR-E6 adapter tube.
The largest diameter of the IPIX FE lens body is smaller than that of the Nikon WC-E63 WA convertor lens so I reckon I could mount this FE convertor lens with the P5100 on a NN head.
