Deciding between the Nodal Ninja 3 and 5 for an 8mm 5D & 30D setup

Well, as the title says, really.

I already own the Sigma 8mm 3.5 lens, and my two camera bodies are the Canon 5D and 30D. I've decided to try and use the lens for panoramas and of course, that means I'll need a head!

I'm leaning towards the Nodal Ninja products for their portability, and obviously the NN3 MkII is the most portable of the pair.

My question is, what is the general consensus here as to which head would be more suitable? Is the NN3 strong enough and big enough for both the 30D and the 5D? Will I need the NN5 if I want to use the head for both?

Any input would be appreciated!

Hi aMac,

NN3II works 8mm on for both cameras. NN5/NN5L is more stable than NN3II if you use a bigger and heavier lens. The positive detent lock in NN5 upper rotator will be a big plus and give you semi-batch stitchable results.

You need simply the NN3 MK2 to use with both the bodies unless you want to use the cam(s) with grip to produce 360 panos, you won't need the NN5.

I use the NN3 ll with my 40D and am very happy with it.
However this is about it's limit of adjustment, and if I were starting afresh I would get the NN5.
The benefit as I see it are more stability together with less vibration, and more room to grow. The extra weight and size is certainly an advantage, as well as a disadvantage in term of cartage, but worth it.
