Upgrade Nikon P5100+FC-E8 to nikon D90+SIGMA 8/3,5 EX DG

Hi
I have a Nikon P5100 FC-E8 and I make panos with 3 shoots.
I was wondering if upgrade to nikon D90 SIGMA 8/3,5 EX DG will give me a better quality.
I have read that with the new equipement I'll have to take 4 shots and there still some parts not taken.
I need an advice if the upgrade will give me some quality benefits.

I have P5100/FC-E8 and Nikon D40/Sigma 8mm f3.5.
Yes, you will see a huge improvement in image quality.
You can take 4-shots with small upwards pitch of about 5 degrees and that will provide good coverage at the zenith and leave only a small 'hole' at te nadir - this square 'hole' is about the diameter of the rotator on my NN5 pano head in the finsished 360x180, so not big deal IMO if you plan to edit/patch out the camera support.
If you are willing to take 6+Z+N then check out the Nikkor 10.5mm fullframe FE.

yes i agree. i have done it the other way round with my 10-22mm on my 40D, i got a P5100 with the FC-E8, it's a lightweight setup that i am experimenting with but it can never match what i can achieve on my dlsr in terms of plain panos, no HDR, no fancy settings...

My results improved with a P5000+E8 when I went from 3 shots to 4 horizontal shots + nadir. A zenith shot would show more improvement.
Not as good as an APS-C sensor, but adequate for many uses and more portable.

better quality resulting from more shots. gonna be bringing more photos back and spending more time stitching them...i guess there a trade off for everything.

Even with 12 megapixels, he sensor on a P5100 is just so much smaller at about 7.6 x 5.7mm than the 12 megapixel APS-C sensor in a Canon 450D at 22.2 x 14.8, that it just can't deliver the image quality, primarily sharpness.
The photo sites are just so close together

A VR photogragher tried to convince me to buy his older Nikon 6mp D100 instead of the used Nikon Coolpix 8700 with 8mp (8.8 x 6.6mm sensor)I was planning on getting.
He never could explain why the D100 could take better photos than the 8700.
I bought the 8700 and have been happy with it, but finally understood when I got my 10mp Canon XTi with its 22.2 x 14.8mm sensor and saw the photos it took.
You're right, "megapixels ain't evertthing"

I have ordered the d90+sigma and the agnos TCPS
I'll do the same pano that I have do with the p5100+FC-E8.
