Microsoft Research just released a new free stitcher called ICE (Image Composite Editor).

It's available in both 32 and 64 bit flavors.

I just pulled the x64 version and tried a few projects that I had stitched with PTGui.

The first was a full spherical interior shot, and it choked. I don't think this tool is for 360 panos.

The second pano was just 3 regular shots from my Canon G9. They stitched just fine. Infact, they stitched cleaner in the preview window than APP did. APP showed multiple people in the same spot (that's how their preview usually works, then a final render removes the artifacted people).

Microsoft ICE removed them automatically, but I couldn't find many options to tweak. It's more a drag & drop and save type application.

Hey, give MS a break! They haven't had time to innovate the 360 spherical solution yet... cool

Actually, as a Mac user, i'm somewhat jealous of Photosynth -

Microsoft seems to be doing much more in the pano-sphere these days than lets say, Apple....

gotta at least give them credit for promoting panoramics -
