Photoshop Pen Selections

Hello,
Some advise from a photoshop guru would be appreciated. I have created a pano in ptgui and saves as a psd layers and blended because I need to cut in the windows. I find that using the photoshop pen tool give me the best selection but I cannot figure out how to alter the selection once I have used the 'make selection' option. Basically here is what I am doing.
I have the window layers active above the background blended pano. I make the selection of the window using the pen tool, once the selection is made I make a selection by right clicking, then copy and paste this into the window area. The problem is that the selection isnt always acurate so I need to adjust it. If I reselect and select the path I just created I can change the points but the selection inside remains the same. There must be an easier way. I have tried the brush tool and simply painted the masks but the results are not as precise as the pen tool.
Hope that makes sense!!!
Thank in advance.
Andrew

what about just using the polygonal lasso tool instead of the pen, you can then save your selection, distort etc via move tool, refine selection, edit in quickmask, etc

Thanks for the reply Sam. I find the lasso not precise enough. I have figured out a way to do it. Using a vector mask on the layer - that way I can adjust the points. Thanks again.

As Sam said, make your basic selection using lasso, then go into quickmask mode and there you can edit it to pixel perfection, using all your brushes etc. Then mask the layer using layer mask, not vector mask. (You can continue editing this mask with brushes etc) Using vectors for masking etc only gives a defined shape and is not as controllable and you don't get the subtlties you can with a 'painted' or 'brushed' mask. hope this helps.
Ive been using PS for app 10 years and found this to be the best way overall for 'photo' editing.

Thanks for the advise, perhaps it's just me but the pen tool seems to provide a much more acurate result (combined with a brush for finer details on the mask itself) The lasso tool compared to the pen is harder to control and does not allow for easy editing unlike curved points - just my opinion.
Thanks again for the advise.

I agree with rudders... Using the magic brush selection to rough out a selection then quick mask is both quick and accurate ... you can enlarge to any degree to quick mask for the finest detail.
